grinding into 4th
I've experienced this since my car was new. When I'm "racing" the engine when I quick shift into 4th it grinds for a second and doesn't want to go into gear. This is especially annoying when I runt eh quarter mile because the engine rpm drops below what it would go to from 3rd - 4th gear. This is just annoying me because I know I can get a slightly faster 1/4 mile time if I can get into 4th gear quicker. Anyone else have this issue? Is there anything I can do fix it? I only have 33k miles on my car, but i'm not taking it to toyota/scion all they ever do to my car is tell me everything is fine whenever I take it in for anything.

Sounds like it could possibly be your syncros. Does it do it even when the car is warmed up? or right when you start driving while is cold? Could be your clutch also, could be fluid low, could be alot of stuff, i'm guessing syncros though

Does it when car is warm or cold. I have filled up resovor with fluid and bleed slave cylinder. That would narrow it down to my syncoros..... How much would it colst to buy all new syncros and hwo hard would it be to replace them? Should I jut buy a new tranmission?

Man i had my syncros go bad in my civic i used to have, 3rd and 4th, it was horrible, went to three different people and they all suggested go to a junk yard and get a whole transmission, but i'm not sure, dont wanna tell you the wrong info, ask around at mechanics before u make a move.

No I still have warranty.... however if I take it in they will probably say that it is normal and that my cold air intake and header are the cause of it.... :/ right now I am running the gear fluid that came with my car.

If I was stressing tranny I would have issues with everything. The only thing wrong is it grinds going into 4th... and it's the only gear that does it. All my other gears are fine and car drives normal except for having to wait for ages to go into 4th.

My suggestion is: Check your syncs...no, you do not have to buy a tranny *IF* you can get ahold of the parts needed to replace it. On top of that, If you are in there, might as well upgrade to a better type. Find a good shop too...I just read an article in Import Tuner on how to do it, and it doesnt seem too hard.
Fluids: whether you use mt-90 or e-whatever doesnt matter at this point. Grinding in going to one gear and not the others would point at something different.
Your mods do NOT void your warranty. They cant say that having an Intake or Header cause unreasonable amounts of stress on the tranny....lol bring it in if you really want to.

I went to Longo Toyota several time about this issue.
They give me a very bad attitude.
My is 06tc with 51k at that time (now is 53k)
They don't want to fix it for me,
Actually I got this issue before that once,
I bring to Longo, they said that the fix it for me, however, I just notice now that my the bolt of tranny has never been opened.
They lied to me the first time.
The only thing I did is to bring my car to another dealer and change the transmission oil, and they charge me 159 dollars to do it.
I just hope that the oil on the transmission won't have some metal to make my gear worse...............><" "really bad dealer!"

well OEM gear oil does sucks but if you had the issue since it was new it could be the tranny or the syncro..but me personally i would switch to eneos gear oil and see if that solved the issue not saying it wil but i has similar issue with the OEM stuff going into 1st and reverse i thought it was the tranny until someone told me about eneos and decided to try it out and hey it worked for me no more issues but according to you..you said it was doing it when it was new which it should but then again lack of lubercation
