Default Header = rasp

Ok so I just put on a Megan header and I knew that I was going to hear some rasp but damn. My car sounds horrible. Right now I have a Tsudo Cat back exhaust but I have plans of changing that to Tanabe concept G. If I make that switch and throw in a S-pipe, will I get rid of the rasp?

Heard it last night, very loud. I still think you'll need to throw on either a high-flow cat or a long resonator to help the raspiness. Hopefully you get something worked out!

From what I am hearing, I need 2 21" resinators and a high flo cat. But I am not sure if that will change the pitch or how loud the exhaust is. Right now all I really care about is getting rid rice burner on crack syndrome my cars just caught!!!!

Good job on searching this site before you put the header on. If you had you would have known that already, there's a solution though get a larger resonator. It doesn't matter that much which exhaust you have on, so unless you like spending money I would just go have a muffler shop weld a larger resonator on.

I knew that I was going to get rasp from the install, I just didn't know it was going to be this bad. I have already ready placed a call to get a quote on price.

^^ well good, this is the main reason I haven't gotten a header. To me I want to hear my exhaust when I want to hear it rather than all the freaking time.

it's all about positioning.

you need the resistance toward the back.

On a non-catalytic converter car, the further forward the mufflers, the more rasp
the further back the mufflers, the deeper tone.

If your engine can handle the reduced backpressure, use high flow resonator & converter.

I have to tell ya, I was really impressed from the performance aspect. I definately notice a different in power, but the rasp is killing me. I was holding off for a while cause I didn't want to deal with it, but then I ran across on ereal cheap and couldn't resist myself.

2 18 inch resonators, no cat = no rasp. any more is overkill.

Whether you get a high-flow cat or not will do practically nothing in toning down your sound levels. An s-pipe has an increased diameter, and will make your car louder. Have the longest resonator you can fit welded in and switch out the muffler for one with plenty of baffling material inside. Oh, and only get resonators with a perforated core.

There is nothing you can do to get reed of the rasp. the only thing that makes it quiter is a no-sraight threw muffler. Somthing simuler to stock.

Wrong info. a 30 inch resonator, or two 15-18 resonators will do the trick. I know, ive tryed about 4 different setups

Agreed. Tcbyrc is wrong. I too have installed resonators before and it does eliminate the rasp. Please don't take advice from somebody who uses pronunciation like "reed," "no-straight threw muffler," and "simuler."

I will be honest, I really don't want to make the exhaust quieter so will the resonators make it quiet or keep it about the same?

They will eliminate the high frequencies, I believe. It should still be loud.

I'm in the same boat as you tc1stgen, I just installed my header this past saturday and i couldn't believe how loud the rasp was. I have the megan header, a 2.5" s-pipe, 2.5" mid pipe with a 18"x 4" magnaflow resonator/muffler and then out the back a side mounted 14"x 8" magnaflow muffler. I'ts still raspy, so i orderd another 14"x4" magna and i'm gonna mount that next to the 18" one.. So i hope that gets rid of it.

Ok guys, so I got the tC out of the shop and it sounds better than it ever has. Now I am not sure if it is different depending on the exhaust set up that you have but this is what worked out for me. I have a Megan header 4-1-1, stock down pipe, and a Tsudo cat back exhaust. Now the exhaust came with a resonator already on the mid pipe, which I thought was gonna take care of the rasp automatically when I installed the header, but obviously it didn't. My guy welded a 21" resonator with a preforated core replacing the original on the mid pipe. That is it! The sound is amazing. Not to sound cocky, but I have not heard a tC sound this nice around me anyways. It has a very deep tone with zero rasp and it is not too loud or quiet. I would cosider it perfect. Plus I think it has a better power response now than when it was a rice burner on crack! I will get a sound clip up as soon as I can! Thanks for all the help and suggestions!!!!

I will be honest and say I have no idea. There is a shop in Pawtucket that does great work and he is an expert, so I trusted him to get what I needed. I can put you in contact with him if your interested.
