Header Cell eliminator
Really...I find that hard to believe. First of all the car really doesn't gain much hp from the exhaust to start with. I mean most testing has shown about 15-20 hp from a full blown header back set up from what I have seen. This is a result of the system being larger in diameter and free flowing. That being said, please explain how placing a piece of metal into the tip that has a smaller diameter, thus blocking the air flow doesn't decrease the it. Why that just seems scientifically impossible. I mean if that was the case, then the aftermarket exhaust systems would not be made out of such large diameter piping. It just doesn't make sense to me.
Perhaps it is because the car never really gained much power to start with. Seriously though, if you guys have had them on the dyno and not seen any changes in hp then you're right and who am I to argue with that. It just seems odd to me. Perhaps it's because my comparison in the past has been against my Suby's. When ever they were corked up it definitely made a difference.
Who knows, in the end, the car may very well end up w/ a full exhaust on it. I doubt the wife will like it much but perhaps a silencer would help. Not sure how much the silencer will help with the droning though (obviously not much with the rasp from you guys have said)

Some of the highest hp cars i seen have small ___ muffler tips which is similar to adding a silencer to are 4.5 in tips and they dont lose hp since the tip u would think is slowing the release of the gases coming out but has no effect
JBarker has it described. A small silencer in the rear does little in regards to losing hp / gaining hp.
The main dependency of power output is the vehicle's engine capacity and design. The TC1 is only a 2.4L i-4 and producing 160HP rated. I would believe the design of the engine is what limits the gains of addons to this engine. Compare this to your subaru and other engines with similar displacement (Such as a Honda S2000's 2.0l 200HP engine) bolt-ons on those with or without silencer, would probably produce HP since the engine design is actually designed for performance in mind.
The 2AZ-FE is shared across multiple toyota vehicles, it wasn't designed to improve much over a few add-ons.

No no, I understand that and I was not bashing it at all. Toyota has pretty much extracted all they can out of it in its NA form. I don't have much of any complaints about that. I completely understand that our car is not a "sports car" and was not really designed to be.
Here's the short of how I ended up with it. I traded in the FXT because I always wanted the WRX body style, pulled all my parts and installed most of them on the WRX (different turbo set up though since the WRX tranny was weaker than the FXT), after getting the WRX I ended up taking a different job in my company and had to drive clients around and what not, so I figured I would save some money and sell it and get a used luxury type car and ended up with an 03 Infiniti I35. After driving that thing around for 2 years and having my company stick me for mileage and gas on my own after putting about 50k on it in one year I took another job (current position with the government) and decided that I wanted something somewhat in expensive that I could tinker with if I decided to, was fun to drive (manual tranny), and just an overall decent looking little car. Boom I got a TC. Now my plans are to do a little tinkering here and there (sorta fell out of it for a while but the Mod-Bug bit me again so here I am again) and to keep it long enough to pass it on to my twin girls as their first car (about 3 more years). Then I will get something new and start all over.
So, back on subject, my buddy has a couple of the bung extenders so I am now just waiting for parts to arrive. It looks like they should all be in by Tue of next week. I'm not sure what his schedule looks like at the moment though so I really don't know how soon I will get them on. Hopefully by the end of next week anyway.
i will keep everyone posted.

And because I am excited about this whole thing (and the fact that the wife is gone taking one of the girls to soccer practice) I went ahead and pulled the main heatshield off. I can only imagine what a PITA putting the upper back portion back on would be! That one little screw it quite a bit of a Pain! I dropped it but fortunately had a little cable puller that grabbed ahold of it from where I could not reach my hand.
I tell ya, these stupid parts couldn't get here soon enough. Going down to NC for a soccer tournament over the weekend and I think it will be the first time in ages that I will have been excited about going to work on a Monday!
Honestly, I can already tell you that I very well may end up with a whole exhaust back on the car. I mean, I know me and I just won't be surprised. I need to stick to my guns though as I have an order of attack at the moment. Tires will be next!

Well, all parts showed up this morning at my office. I am now dieing to get them on the damn car. My buddy is free all week but unfortunately I am not. I am going to see if I can get a Hall Pass from the wife for this evening to swing by and help him with "his" car at his house. If not, then perhaps tomorrow during the day or something.
I will post back and try to get some sort of video clip together to put up so everyone can see what it ends up sounding like.
So, from what I have actually seen of the parts (of course I unpacked everything in my office...duh!), the parts look well welded (a little goopy here and there on the intake). The header and s-pipe both came with all needed gaskets and the S-pipe with new bolts as well.
I already pulled the main heatsheild off the stock manifold and I would thank that once the car is jacked up that the removal/replacement of the manifold/header and S-pipe should go really quick. I seriously doubt that it will take he and I longer than 30 minutes to actually swap these parts out. I seriously think the intake is going to take that long on its own simply due to the routing of the lower section.

The bolt closest to the alternator is a _____ I used a wrench and a hammer to break it loose and the brackets that hold the header to the engine under the car suck to. Intake is easy just remember to route the lower half up through the fender unlike me who got ____ed off trying to do it from the top lol
Man, we got air tools!!! I'm more concerned about snapping bolts if anything! Seriously though, we both have some cheater bars (I also have a 24" Snap-On Torque bar) so we should be good to go.
Did you pull the wheel and wheel well when installing the lower section of the intake? Just trying to see the easiest way to go about this on this car.

Looking forward to the sound clips!!
Don't forget you will need CEL anti-fouler down low after s-pipe if you have emissions testing.
Looks like you're in MD... don't know if your car is mad rusty down underneath, but good luck taking the mounting brackets off the oem manifold! ;)

Cool sounds simple enough! Oh, I have done alot in the past without air tools and I will tell you first hand that it simply sucks! Its well worth the investment if you tend to wrench on your car alot.

I have two bung extenders already (anti foulers as you guys call them). If that does not work then I may order a 90 degree that I found for $22 or make one w/ some Home Depot crap. But yes, here in MD we got emissions testing and rust (fortunately the car is only 1.5 yrs old so there isn't much rust down there yet).
Oh and you may want to consider buying new bolts for the spring bolts down under.... it's gonna be rusty trust me lol - the threading on one of my bolt was so rusty and bad that it warped upon taking it out. and it wouldn't go in. so I had to get new grade-8 bolts from hardware store.
I used pb blaster need it!!!! I used two foulers got cel added a 3rd and now it's gone
hey becareful taking off the donut gasket it gets ruined easy then you'll have to buy a new one which I had to do

Well the S-pipe came with new bolts but none with the actual header (where the springs/bolts are located). I can probably just pick up some bolts on the way home just in case. I did the same when I got my Greddy axle back just to be on the safe side. Sure enough, the guy did not include them with it and of course you have to have them. Fortunately, I looked under the car before I tore out the stock muffler so I was able to drive to the store.
Yep, I will spray first and the header actually came with a new dough nut gasket as well as the main gasket. The S-pipe came with a new gasket and bolts for its flange but no new spring bolts for header/s-pipe connection.
Hell, if I wasn't wearing my fancy pants and having to attend a meeting in like 20 minutes I would have already been at my buddies house installing this crap!

Well, it looks like the install is on hold until at least Friday! My buddy bailed on me. How frickn annoying! I was texting back and forth with him all day and then when it was time to actually get it done, he flaked! Bastard!
Unfortunately, I have a training appointment tomorrow evening and then my daughter has make up soccer games WE, TH, FR, a tournament on SAT/Sun and another game Sun night! Just ridiculous! Don't they know I have new frickn toys hidden in the basement that need to get installed????
Oh well, I did get my intake on but you can read about that in the other thread. I will keep you guys posted and get some pics up when done as well as a sound clip (if I can actually figure out how to get that all downloaded once done. Haven't used my new camera for video just yet)
