header wrap
i went to the track 2 Thursday ago and couldn’t brake into the 15.s why? it was 90degress outside and the one thing i notice that night was my car was burning up inside. I also saw a civic out there running 14's with a N/A and he had everything wrapped. Intake headers ETC. i was wondering if you all thought it was worth it. It could be a 1% hp improvement if done correctly.
FYI, 14second N/A Civic isn't that special, depending on the year model, and engine being used..... and to answer your quesiton.... No, wrapping your headers serves no good purpose... if anything, it's more likely to be bad for your header.
heat is mainly used is f/i applications because of the MASSIVE amounts of heat generated by it. i suppose it could have some benifits on a n/a vehicle such as lower engine bay temp but it would probaby be marginal at best
I'm going to have my turbo header ceramic coated inside and out for 2000 degree protection. This is supposed to help with performance. Got a quote for $100 to have it done.
I may wrap the area on my s-pipe where it comes close to the oilpan, to keep the oil pan cooler.

Doesnt keeping the heat inside the headers create more pressure inside to drive the exhaust out faster? Thats what Ive been told anyways. I understand that for long term and street use header wrap isnt a good idea but for the track its a good help. I dont know.

Well my understanding that its better for a wrap for to purposes increases pressure and keep heat away from other parts such as electricals... as far as warping it... i doubt that since steel has to get at over what like 2500 degrees to be able...

For this kind of stuff you need a professional shop that specializes in it, there are not that many. Both the outside 'and' inside need coated and they have to be basically dipped and baked.
I would like to have Jet-Hot but they haven't replied with a quote yet.

Seriously, if you buy quality high temp ceramic paint for your header, and you do quality prep work and don't rush it, then you'll have no problems.
I've done it on my past 2 cars wihtout any issues of cracking ceramic paint. You just need a wire brush, soapy water to initially clean it, xylol or acetone to help scuff the surface with the metal brush, and rubber gloves to protect the hands.
Just don't skimp on the prep, it should take you longer to prep the header then to paint it.

FYI wrapping your header will actually help your car out at the track. I have it done on my bike and it does help a little bit. Your exhaust gas burns better and more efficiently and flows smoother. I would give it a try and if it doesnt help you any just remove it its not that hard to do.
Just double check with your header manufacturer. A lot of them will void the warranty on the header because the wrap will hold moisture against the metal and can cause corrosion, and pre-mature failure.
