Help if you can with Engine Performance..
Need some generous helping direction. I have a 2006 automatic Scion tC. I already know that manual is probably better. But I want to work on beefing up my Scion. Are there any by engine swaps I can get besides doing a turbo upgrade to get the power I want?
Already did Exhaust work, Cold Air Intake and put on some Performance Headers. I can feel a difference but it not what I want. I don't know where to actually start because once you start there's a bunch of other stuff you see to do.
Can anyone give pointers? I would appreciate the help.

I think Orange Virus has a tuner available for the 1g now. Their older flash-tuning version made a world of difference in my 2g and the new software is more powerful.
I don't know the specifics of that motor, but a lightweight crank pulley is nice for some mid-range torque and usually makes the motor feel smoother. Check how your motor is balanced though.
Another thing that makes a bigger difference than most realize is beefing up the suspension on underpowered cars. It costs a lot to make them fast, but you can have just as much fun with them once you stiffen them up a bit for considerably less money (compared to forced induction). The TB Performance braces and a good set of coilovers will do wonders for your control without ruining the ride quality. Better traction will help you carry the speed thru corners and help you not to lose as much power off the line. Urethane motor mounts are good to help put the power to the ground as well, but too stiff and they'll create significant NVH.

Best to start with results you want, then it's easier to find best way there.
How much more power do you want?
+5-15hp? that's limit of bolt-on/tuning mods
+50hp? needs cracking open engine and replacing pistons, larger valves, head work
+100hp? find engine with output you want and swap it in. Or turbo
so... how much more power do you want?
also, how much money/budget do you have set aside for this upgrade?
