Default How To - TurboEast Electronic Shift Kit (E.S.K) - ISSUES

Edited - There seems to be some issues on shifting. Working with Turbo East now.

Here we go Automatic tC owners. I put together the kit using a Dezod Emanage harness. However, any harness should work if it is straight thru. I do recommend one, but not necessary.

The instructions are good (hard to read a little), but the connectors are laid out going INTO the ECU. So my harness is laid out to plug into the ECU to get the right connector and right terminal pins. E8 - E7 - E6 - E5 - E4. Top row number 1-2-3 from right to left.

First thing I did was locate Ground and use a wire tap. E8 Terminal 17

Now I'm getting ready to cut the E7 - Terminal 12 wire

Now I soldered terminal 12 spliced wires and heat shrink them (green heat shrink)

The other E7 - terminal 13 wire cut, soldered and (white) heat shrinked. I also tapped into the red Ignition wire E4 - Terminal 9 with a wire tap connector. I added a long piece of red because I will wire in a switch....once I confirm it works right.

I will post pic of actuall install tomorrow morning. I can't do it now...no car. I will have it tomorrow morning...then take it for a test drive

So I need to go to TurboEast and buy the IS3's E.S.K. and ungraded valve body and Dezod harness?

Thats all I would need to get the ball rolling right?

Well, that's kinda the cool part. If the E.S.K does the trick, no need to do the valve body upgrade. If the shift needs to be harder under boost, then you wouldn't need the E.S.K - just do the valve body upgrade. But you shouldn't need both as far as I understand it.

The Dezod harness will only work if you plan on installing Emanage at the same time becaue the Dezod harness is prewired for Emanage. The ZPI harness is not prewired when they get them, so if you are not going Emanage, then I would get a ZPI harness without Emanage taps.

Video Tomorrow morning.

i have a question... for those of us who have automatics and install the e.s.k....

if we were to get the TRD supercharger and the reflash from toyota, would that at all in anyway corrupt the e.s.k. since it is connected to the ecu, or does it have nothing to do with it at all?

Man, that ECU harness is expensive... shows up as $295 on ZPI's site... I thought it was supposed to be $200?

i'm still a little ignorant about the e.s.k. is it for harder shifts on an auto?

Here's the original thread that'll explain more:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...145&highlight=

But basically yea, it's for auto trannys and it's supposed to eliminate sloppy shifting

Hey ScionDad, once this all works and you add in the switch, will it be safe to turn the ESK off/on while driving? Thanks.

I installed the kit and YES....it shifts much harder and more of a thump. Really NICE. I drove it around the block a few time and really like the feel of the shifts.

However...the Emanage makes the car run poor. I set the switches to 4-2-2 and left everything else as is and it idles rough and feels like no power when taking off. So, I removed the harness and put it back stock. Sloppy shift but much better idle and power.

However, this discussion is about the E.S.K and I MUST give it a thumbs up big time for a stock tC. I need to see how it handles with boost, next.

Now...I need to find out why emanage makes the car run like crap.

nice! thanks for all the hard work ScionDad...

so if we use the ESK with the regular ECU harness, it should have better results than with the Emanage right?

Can this be turned off and on by a switch? This would make it a ++++ so that I can get smooth shift when normal driving and turn this baby on when I'm at the track or just to have a friendly race with someone at a stoplight.

So the ESK works, but the emanage does not? Where can we buy the ESK?
