Default Install Strup Headers + Invidia S Pipe + Magnaflow Catback

I will be installing, well attempting to install, Strup Headers + Invidia S Pipe + Magnaflow Catback tomorrow on my 07 tC, I plan on starting in the early AM; will there be any expected/unexpected difficulties completing the job? I was hoping for a completely bolt up and clamp installation but something tells me it will not be that easy. Any guidelines or help will be greatly appreciated.

make sure to soak up some of the bolts with wd-40 so you dont strip any of the bolts. but overall its a very easy and quick process ones you get use to it.

honestly the hardest part will probably be taking out your o2 sensors..those can be a real PITA..use some PB blaster and be careful taking them off

Have fun dealing with the rasp. Removing the primary CAT will lead to a terrible sounding exhaust. I hope you have some nice resonators.

also very important.........use open end or preferably 6 sided wrenches, not 12 as that is the number one reason bolts strip use proper size wrench, not just one that is close, example not using a 13mm on a 1/2" size bolt.take your time and have a friend help.

correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't the magnaflow catback require you to cut the mid pipe, thus leaving the secondary cat?

yea if you got the magnaflow catback, you have to cut like 5-6 inches after your cat, and then it clamps on

Thanks for ALL the replies!!

Unfortunately I left my laptop at home while I was in my garage so I didn't see any of your posts til this morning.

I will get the car up on jack stands today and take some pictures.

I have NO RASP so i'm elated.

The o2 sensors were definitely a PITA!

I ended up taking my stock header and s-pipe to Advanced Auto Parts and putting them in a vice and pulling with every inch of muscle to get them to break loose. This is even after having them soaked in WD40 for 30 minutes.

Without the o2 sensors the tC made a "Putt-Putt" sound because of the o2 sensor openings.

Indeed the Magnaflow catback leaves the second cat in place but by simply using the clamps there was exhaust leakage. To eliminate this I used the clamps then welded the clamps onto the pipe ensuring for an airtight seal.

The last bolt on the exhaust manifold to get the headers off was a real PITA...it took me 5 hours to get that far since I was unable to use the 12mm open face with a slight tap of the hammer approach. I instead had to take off the alternator to get that sucker out.

The easiest thing to do by far was the Invidia s-pipe, that was a match made in heaven as far as simplicity goes.

Let me get the car on stands and take some pictures.

I actually gave my video camera away last month, I didn't use it and a friend of mine just had a baby so I figured him and his wife could get much more use out of it than I ever could.

I took some pictures yesterday so those are forth coming.

I have my Blackberry but....quality would go in the toilet.

I will recant my last statement.

I have a tad bit of rasp at higher RPMs.

Let me know what you think.

That sounds like the rasp that we have all experience. Wait until you drive your car under load and you will really get annoyed by the evil rasp.

Aryan; I see the posts so what do you suggest?

My rasp doesn't sound as bad as your original setup.

Would two of these do the trick?

Do you suggest something else?

Where is the ideal spot to install the resonators?

That would be perfect. I have a 28" and a 24" welded into my exhaust. That is 40" of resonator. The resonator needs to be welded into the mid section of your exhaust. Put it where the OEM resonator was on the stock exhaust. Weld some hangers on it and your set.

You could try two resonators but if you feel that the rasp is not that bad then one should be fine.

In the video is your car could, or had it been running for a while?

Yes my car had been running for awhile about 4 hours really. I took the video right after I drove from Charlotte to Atlanta. It might sound a little worse on a cold start.

Two should be plenty enough, I would rather be safe than sorry later.

So I can weld them in right behind the CAT? I just may take them to a muffler shop and let them do it.

Take it to a shop and let them do it, its awesome.
I just had a 18" magnaflow resonator welded into my midpipe and I am amazed at how much it helped.
