Install of TRanny with LSD...
As some of you know i bought a tranny and an LSD and had someone install it in the tranny for me https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...r=asc&&start=0
Anyway started the joyful ;) project on thursday night of installing the tranny with the LSD
My boyfriend Aaron basicially did the whole thing, i helped as much as i could, and learned a lot.
been without the tC being in a driveable state since wednesday night
aaron's been getting beat up by the car since then
thursday night we got started by getting all the stuff possible out of the way till we got sick of... this included removing the brake rotors, hubs, axles, part of subframe, battery and tray, starter, intake, s pipe,
eye on the prize...

basicially tried to get as much stuff as possible to get to the tranny... till we got tired
Friday night... went back to it...
The sub frame which was a massive huge pain in the ___... didn't actually attack the main part of it till friday night.. that thing is HEAVY as heck.
Getting it off was such an annoyance.. there was pure dread in the idea of putting it back on...

after the subframe was off.. they next step was getting the tranny out... from my vantage with the camera above the car watching both the guys attack the project from underneath the car it seemed failry simple to get off the exsisting tranny... once there was a spot to pull them apart from.. took a bit to get that area wiggled out... didn't look like fun while also trying to support the wieght of the damn thing.

View of the clutch when the original tranny was off...

Once the clutch and fly wheel was removed i made a dinner run for the hard workers :
: and came back to find that the new clutch and a resurfaced flywheel were back on the the car..
for comparision:
Old Clutch Disk

New Clutch Disk

New & old Pressure Plates Side One

New & old Pressure Plates Side Two

Resurfaced Fly Wheel & New Flywheel

Clutch Going Back On:

When it was late and i was at the point of getting sick of being in the garage the instructions from the box on the clutch ammused me for a bit

Two trannies... one car...
woulda sucked if we accidentaly put in the one iwthout the LSD :p

After clean up was done to the with LSD tranny and it was made sure that all the brakcets and such that were needed were on the tranny it went back in
quite an effrot to "bench press" it in and get all the holes lined up properly but thankfully aaron had some muscle help and it got done

About this time all parties were tired and we thought it was a good stopping poiint...
went back out on saturday morning and Lee joined us...
he and aaron basicially bench pressed the heavy ___ subframe back in...
alone with finaggling the sway bar in

Rotors (old)

Rotors (new)

After that... got the shocks/springs back in with new rotors

starting putting things back in place also...

It was a frustrating process because everything had to be just so, or else it would need to be re done do to no real room to work with. ... called it quite after about 5 hours called it a day.
Today went back to the garage and continued putting things back together all the harnesses were put back in, put the intake back, the starter, the exhaust (s-pipe), new brake pads,
stopped a little early again today due to just being tired and knowing that it didn't HAVE to get done today...
all that is left is putting the battery back in, putting on the splash guards back on the bottom of the car, putting the wheels back on and putting it back on the ground to be DR1VEN (if you know my car you know what i mean ... lol it's my license plate)

Very nice
Oh the joy of not having an engine crane or extra jack to work with
If were already in a house, I would probably buy the tranny... if you still have it this fall I may have a spot for it in the garage :D

the clutch is just an Exedy standard OE replacement clutch kit (for the class in which i auto-x i can't put on a more aggressive cluth 'legally'
i paid 120 for it shipped
the rotors are custom made by SPC Performance
oh i had no idea TRD made the Quaife LSD, learn somethin new everyday....did anyone ever try the cheaper method with that LSD adapter, i wouldnt recommend it, heard some bad things about tranny failures, i forgot the name but it appears to be like 2 blocks you stick in the stock differential.

Quaiffe makes the TRD LSD
basicially TRD bought out the rights to it from Quaiffe.
and i have no idea what your "cheaper method" is... but this not an process you want to ____ around with or cut corners on if you want to ever drive you car again.
Some have had good luck with those, but I have heard of a lot of people saying they had bad experiences. I think Rick used those on his tC (one bad@$$ car), but I am not sure. But he is also equipped and prepared to rip it out and replace it if needed. The car was 100% built to run on a track for those that dont remember it.
If I were doing it, it would be a true LSD or nothing since they are available. I prefer to only take my tranny out once if possible
Nice to see this car will hit the autox events! I am looking to do the same this summer with mine. More for fun than anything. Now that I know there is rally and snow rally here in MN, I will probably start looking for a RWD or an older STI for a toy in the next couple of years :D

and yes.. taking the tranny out once was more then enough for us
i've been auto-'xing the tC for the past 2 years...
just needed to get some more power to the wheels going around corners...etc...
so this was the obvious choice.
