Installing a oil catch can on a TC
hello all. I was bored so i decied to order one of those oil catch cans and mess around with it. I found a DIY for a XB but not specifically for the TC so i made one. just in case someone else wanted to do this. here goes.

with valve cover off

...

remove this pipe

use the same clip from the intake manifold part of the stock pipe

with clip and new pipe in place

the second clip was not large enough so i used the coupler that came with the can

i mounted the "L" bracket on the battery tie down post. you will need to flip this nut around and screw down all the way

seen here with the "L" bracket in place. with the included nut holding the bracket down.
sorry i dont have the rest of the pics with the can in place. my camera suddenly did not want to cooperate with me. but this install is fairly simple. anyone with minium mechanical skills can accomplish this MOD. after installing this i went and got my first oil change and drove around for a bit and no oil so far. when i took the stock pipe off, that was connected to the intake manifold. there was lots of oil, so i hope this helps. just so everyone knows, this mod does not gain you any HP. its just so there is no slud build up in the intake...i dont know if this was done correctly. but looking at my pics i might have to make a lil bit of change to the piping.
after my camera comes back to life. i will upated this. probably by next week. oh yea this took about 30-40mins. enjoy

The Oil Catch Tank catches the oil and moisture in the blow-by gas that causes carbon and sludge build-up in the intake system and the engine. It keeps the engine clean even under hard driving conditions.
this thing actually works. ive looked under the hood to see if it has collected anything. and it has. the liquid is almost clear like but has a tint of brown. i guess this is the slud that builds up in the intake.
what did u do to plug up the hole on the intake side?
this is a common procedure on older cars. Instead of a catch can people put something that looks like a miniature air filter. Ive seen it done on my old supra engine

i didnt plug up the intake manifold part. basically the catch can is in between the tubes. its kinda hard to explain. ill get some more pics up since im off on wed. and im going to install the new TRD sway bar that i just ordered.
you routed the piping all the way to the battery then back to the intake? that's a really long ways, i don't think it would hinder any performance, but i'd be cautious about a lot of the sludge building up in the tubing and not even making it to the catch can
does it looks like there is any place to mount it closer? like on the firewall?

you can mount it on the fire wall or even by the passenger strut tower. the reason why i mounted by the battery is because the catch can is too big to mount anywhere else. ill have pics up tomorrow guys. and yes it catches the sludge that goes to the intake. there is a lil view tube so that you can see the stuff that the can has collected. IMO this is a very inexpensive investment to keep the engine clean.
