Hey guys im currently in the states on vaca

I was wondering does the K&N be used as short ram??
Cause the guy in autozone said the TYPHOON for the 06 tc can also be used as short ram intake by removing the front part(the part that goes all the way down) is this true? I want to know before i dish out $300
And if so wich would you recommend AEM or K&N??
