Default JEGS Exhaust Cutout...?

I was wondering what people thought about an exhaust cutout for daily driving? JEGS sells a nice kit that I'm thinking of getting.

Does anyone currently drive around with this or should it be for the track only? It sounds pretty nice from what I've heard on Youtube. I'm looking for that low grumble sound without the high pitched rattlecan echo at high RPMs. I know 4 bangers have a hard time achieving this but I'm willing to give it a try.

Let me know what you guys think and thanks for all the "Constructive" feedback in advance lol.

It's going to be pretty flippin' loud dude, also depending on where you put it. It will be anything but low grumble. That's just idle. As soon as you start driving, it will be pure rasp at mid to high range. You can customize these to put them anywhere and manipulate the sound. I like the sound, but I love loud. For a tC, it's going to be pretty obnoxious which is what you said you don't want, but I'd like it. For cheaper, you can even just run an open header. Ricers love that.

Well to get the lowest tone possible thru the entire RPM band, where would I want to install the cutout?

OR!! What exhaust system would give me the tone that I'm looking for? I'm want the lowest possible grumble at idle and low RPMs but I don't want the raspy echo can sound at high RPMs like all the riced out Civics in my area. Please spread your knowledge Scionlife!! lol.

My current car knowledge extends to changing fluids and direct replacement. The only engine upgrade I've done myself is a Weapon R Short Air Intake lol. When it comes to everything else mechanical I'm more or less clueless. I have some knowledge about how stuff works but put me under the hood and tell me how something works and I'll probably have a question or 2 for you lol.

Pearl, with these little cars, less weight = more power. An exhaust cutout just adds weight without a real benefit (it will be really raspy if you put it after the header). If you want a deep grumble, TRD makes a quality axle back that sounds clean and looks nice. For the love of mother Toyota don't put a cutout on a non turbo scion

Tshock, you’re stalking me now?! lol. I don't mind fans though...

Silliness aside, I was looking at the cutout as a cheap alternative to an actually exhaust system. The ability to flip a switch and make it stock again has its uses too.

I'm at work at the moment so YouTube videos won't load (Damn Government computers) but I'll take a look tonight and let you know what I think.

I’m not really looking for power since I know I’ll never achieve the kind of HP I want with my 105k mile tC. I’m just looking for nice sound and good looks. I have a 4-1 header I need to install as well and I’m sure that will change the tone a bit too. Thank you Criminaltc and Tshock for your advice and possibly saving me lol.

First off, ask away. I'll answer any questions you got man.

Second, you want an Agency Power Exhaust. The aftermarket exhaust systems for the tC actually have done a great job to reduce that four cylinder rasp, and there is next to none with most cat backs. The Agency is the best, and the price shows, but if you just want some nice grumble and no rasp, you can really go with just about any of the ones out there for the tC. The axle back won't give you what you want. If you want any sort of volume, you'll need a cat back. Axle backs don't do anything. When you are at home, just YouTube sound clips of different exhausts on the tC. There's plenty of clips for each exhaust on the tC. Screw QVC, YouTube is the real shopping network!

I have a QTP CUTOUT AND ITS great! But my car is also turboed. On an N/A car you will get NO benefit. It will just be loud and annoying. Honestly, if you want a cheap exhaust upgrade just remove the stock axle-back exhaust. Sounds good
