why lock it, i think there is some good information being discussed, some people just need to not be so sensitive, and some people need to be more open minded.....but since that will never change, nobody is forcing anyone to post or read this, so if you dont like what is being said here quietly walk away.
this is like TV, if you dont like the channel dont watch it, if you dont like what is being said in a forum dont post, and dont read it.

mods dont lock this.........

no, this has gotten FAR off topic with someone personally bashing me, and i refuse to drop to that level.

if it was strictly on the filter, by all means, keep it open to discussion, but its not like that.

AMEN Brotha!

not only is the K&N a much better filter, it also has significantly less surface area allowing for much less resistance. At low throttle/low engine speeds, true there will not be much difference (as it is with basically any aftermarket intake). But at hi throttle/hi engine speeds (4k+) when the engine is really gasping for a bigger breath of air, the difference can be felt. Maybe you just have to have a little experience or actually know what you're talking about to appreciate it. I really doubt the filter adds a couple horses throughout the whole RPM range, but certainly at the top end. You don't need a Dyno to figure that out!

Break_Away- i appreciate the fact that you are always so willing to share your point of view, however many times i'm not so sure you provide the most accurate info. For example, you think your car is "Hooked UP"..while others (like me) think your car is TOTAL rice. But whatever, thats not the point. The bottom line is, YOU don't have nor have you tried the K&N filter, so your entire argument is based on SPECULATION and Heresay (what you heard or read from another source). Therefore you should not have ever gotten involved in this thread. People who DO have the K&N and appreciate the benefits don't want to hear your baseless opinions or have you tell us what we can or cannot feel in our OWn car.

I'm totally open minded and can admit when i'm wrong, but when someone takes their personal opinion and tries to shove it down your throat like its written in the bible, thats where i draw the line. If you HAVE a K&N filter, i'm more than interested in hearing your thoughts, if not, keep it to yourself. I don't go into threads where you post about your mods and talk about how ricy or cheezy your mods are (blaupunkt!)

ok people this is an internet forum. keep your personal business in PM's.

KEEP THE FORUMS AND YOUR POSTS RELEVANT AND HELPFUL - If you think your post might be offensive, or might start trouble, then DO NOT post it. There is a right and wrong way to go about everything. Calling car's "ricey" is definetely provoking an argument. If you do not like something or disagree with something, dont post about it, or reply maturely, respectfully, and knowledably. If you can't handle that, then get off the forums.

1 more remark off color and this thread is LOCKED

haha for real. You will notice no difference in performance in any way with the drop in filter on the tC. Maybe you would on an '84 fiero.

difference in performance (from drop in alone)..perhaps not. Difference in air intake flow and engine power and efficiency--slight. aka. you should be able to tell the difference after you install and rev it up a bit. Breathes a bit better and a bit throatier...

I know. I HAVE one.

i have the TRD drop in filter which is similar to the k&n drop in

I too saw revs climbing faster above 3.5k rpm and sounds lounder than the stock cotton filters when doing so
its an easy concept.

better air flow equates to improved engine performance also in certain weather conditions
high humidity vs low heat concentration
high pressure vs low pressure
and such
also affect engine performance

The freakin dyno margins of error are bigger than 1hp. its more like 5 hp margin of error.

Gotta take into consideration significant digits guys.

Plus, you could take 100 dyno pulls and you'd probably get a different reading everytime. And on a different day, you results could be different yet again.

Plus, most people are more concerned with having a mod make more Peak HP real hi in the rpm range, as opposed to improved HP/torque throughout the Whole range and just not getting as much top end gain.

most aftermarket systems are sold on this principle, so they can advertise their product as making more HP than other comparable competitors products.

The K&N air filter technology has been around and been trusted for a LONG time, and i'd believe what they say about their products over what any random "dyno test" has to say.

Case closed.

I guess I am gonna revive this post and put in my 2 cents. First, 2LoTc, Break_Away is right, you will not feel a 1-2hp difference on a 160hp car (at the crank), its all in your head. Second, the change in the sucking noise your new filter makes does not equate to better breathing or "more air flow/engine power", more engine power=more hp. Third, those k&n filters were initially designed over 30 years ago to trap more dirt in off road racing not breath better. K&N makes a couple different lines of SR/CAI for that. Last, I don't know how old you are but all those kid/son and stick to "how to rice your car threads" attacks are not necessary. As a matter of fact, I am willing to bet money that he knows more about the tC (yes the 2AZ-FE) than you, coupled with all your personal attacks toward him I am also willing to bet that you don't know much period, and just attempt to sound smart by basing your own opinions and assumptions off of uncorroborated facts that you may have read or overheard. Next time please refrain flaming people, especially those who obviously know more than you, as a matter of fact your pretentious attitude just demonstrates how ignorant you really are.
