Lightweight Flywheel
I'm sure this topic may have been discussed but I can't find the answers I'm looking for.. just wondering if anyone has changed out the stock flywheel to a lighter one and had any problems with it.. How much was labor? I'm thinking about it but am sure the labor is going to cost ALOT $$$.. please help
thanks
thanks
Is the 5lb too light? The 10+ lbs are only maybe 20 lbs lighter I hear.. that can't possible increase acceleration THAT much... between the cost of labor and the part price.. wouldn't it be cheaper to just get a good CAI like Weaperon R or K&N?.. thx

and would the light weight flywheel help an auto as much as it would a manual?
^^ Yep, not sure if you can pull the tranny separate on this car (havent really looked that close), so it may call for removing both engine and tranny to replace it. I have separated the tranny far enough to replace the clutch on cars that the books call for removing both, but it is still a pain for a small change.
is this a daily driver? i beleve most here are. so unless you have done all the standard bolt on power (headers, exhaust, CAI, type R emblems) then there is no reason to upgrade the fly. really unless you have a turbo kit installed the is no reason. you arnt gonna run 9's.
but if you insist on uping the fly, be sure to get a sport or race clutch while you are at it. labor is expensive... and while your at one pat of the tranny, might as well go for broke.

If you are going to take the time and spend the money to change the flywheel then of couse do as recommended and upgrade the clutch at the same time. Then again, may as well go for an LSD as well, more labor yet but worth it in the end, if you are doing other mods and use the car for autox, etc, it can make a nice difference.
For a daily driver that you are just farting around in, maybe play a bit here and there, stock flywheel is fine do other mods first.

you can just drop the trans. if it's the same as the camrys
Just dropping the tranny is a relative term at best
Really not that far from pulling the engine when you do so, there is alot of work involved, I have done both numerous times on the Matrix cars, about the same exact layout as we have on the tC.
If I was going to all the trouble to install a light flywheel I would certainly install an LSD while at it and a clutch as well, and stiffen up the front and rear motor mounts;)
