magnet???
okay so i have heard of people having metal pieces under there valve cover that made ticking noises. I looked under my valve cover and found some chips in my cams as well as under the the cams by the valves i have seen chips out of there as well so will that give me metal in my oil pan and a tick should i take a magnet and run around and see if i can pull out the metal it seems like its from the valve cover because i left the car running and put my hand on the valve cover and felt something hitting it but when i took off the valve cover there was not anything notice able but a few chips.... im so stuck on this i am about to give up and sell my car I have one week till hin and i have to take a bus now to work someone please help me
.... i hate april fool's day, and normally, I don't respond to anything on this day, but I'll bite.

How bad is your tick, exactly? It would take a heck of a valve ticking to want to sell my car, just because of the noise.
Normally, changing the oil removes the vast majority of the little metal shavings that naturally come off of a motor while in use. If you're really concerned, the first step would be to change the oil, run it for a few miles, then change the oil again. (Essentially, do a "flush".)
I don't think a magnet will help much, if any, since any part of the motor that gets a steady stream of oil for filtering purposes would be small enough to clog up, IF you actually had some problem going on.
If it's loud enough for you to take the bus, it's loud enough for you to limp it to a repair shop and have them take a look at it. It could be something much more serious that you're mistaking for a very loud valve tick.

<- 57k miles, extremely mild tick at worst, and that's not constant. Usually it's as quiet as day one.

I to me it seems like oil is not getting up to the cams when i take off the oil cap there is smoke comming out of it. but i was drving and it got worse when the rpms got higher and when i dropped the pan i saw nothing but sliver flake all over my pan but no chunks of metal. but i pulled the car into the garage and it sounded like something was hitting the valve cover but i can find anything i have not done a full flush but i drove my car to work and i left for lunch and my oil light came on i drove it back and it started to tick very bad there was no oil on the dip stick so i put oil in it the tick calmed down a bit then i drove it down the highway and it got worse so i towed it. my old motor my crank snaped in half and chunks of the crank was in my oil pan so im really scared so should i just get a new oil filter flush it and let the car run at idle for a bit?
sounds like you need to have a mechanic look at it, something sounds loose, and running it can possibly do more damage. Is oil coming out of the engine anywhere, is it smoking out the exhaust?

Whoa.
Sorry, didn't know you've had extensive issues.
I would take it to a reputable shop in your area. This sounds like something you're not going to be able to fix in your garage, unless you've got the ability to tear down the motor until you find what's wrong.
Rough guess:
Massive oil leak somewhere, and it's spinning down your bearings and internals.
Seriously, you're much better off getting it towed to a shop, and let them have at it. If you dont tow it, then dump in as much oil as you safely can, and drive it straight there.
Sorry I can't help.

You need to keep this in the other thread you started.
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...672&highlight=
You stated there that you put 3 qts of oil in the car and it was gone the next day... and no sign of a leak. You keep driving it with a ticking noise and have metal shavings in the oil pan. The tick isnt the metal peices moving around. When the oil pressure is low, it is the timing chain having no tension. Since it did it even after you added oil, you most likely have trashed the bearings. You are destroying your motor by continuing to drive it. You need someone that knows what they are doing to look at it before it has a scrap iron fit.
And if you put 3 qts in like you said and it is gone.. with no leak and no smoke, you are putting oil in the wrong place.

I know you don't have money but you need to take it somewhere to get the problem diagnosed by driving it around you are just causing more damage which in turn will lead to more money being required to fix it. You cannot just take the shavings out and think it is okay. Also nobody is going to buy a car with the problems you have.

We have been giving you good advice in all three threads you started on this, but you arent listening. We ARE trying to help. You keep talking about trying to seal up things (but you dont see a leak) and remove metal particles... but are ignoring the fact that your motor is already obviously damaged and is just getting worse everytime you start it. No offense intended, but you dont know what is going on inside a motor and especially what is going on with yours. You need to park it until you can get someone to look at it that knows what they are doing.
You can take that advice or not, but at least stop creating thread after thread, ignoring advice and then popping off at at someone who said nothing against you to begin with.
