Default Morning+getting on it= backfire

Anyone else have this problem? When I leave my house in the morning . I usually just drive slow for the first couple minutes. But if I have to get on it to get out in traffic. When I shift to go into another gear it kinda pops or backfires. It only does it in the mornings or when the car is cold. I have intake, header, full mid pipe and axle back exhaust. There is no cats on the car at all. Just one resinator. Anyone have a idea what might cause this.

On another note my car smells really rich all the time. I had someone the other day say something about it also. Could that be cause of the no cats?

Thanks for all the help.

Mine backfires with stock header and a catless midpipe. In most cases, the cat sufficiently damps out the pops so with stock exhaust you only hear little burbles under decel with partial throttle.

Thats typical for a car with an open midpipe. The CAT gets hot and vaporizes unburned fuel. With no cat, that unburned fuel can get into the exhaust and will combust slowly causing the backfires....thats why you see race cars shooting flames out the tailpipes during shifting.

I think it might just be excess fluids be spit out. I dont think it is a big deal, but thought I would ask if anyone else has this issue.
