My Bomz Install Experience
I don't have pics or a video loaded up yet, but I'll give you the jyst(sp?) of it:
Installed the bomz cai for scion 06 yesterday = PITA, but keep reading!
Took the necessary stock parts out, removed the wheel and folded the fender lining back. I chose not to remove the bumper. Doing it again I probably would have removed the bumper just so I could access certain parts easier.
The cai came packaged in bubble wrap, and the piece that connects to the filter had scratches on the bend, but once i tried snaking it from the wheel well up to the hood i understood where the scratches probably came from and then i didnt really care since i added some more to the same area.
it also did not come with any instructions, which i should have expected from prev bomz owners, but a quick call up to bomz racing in CA, i spoke to I believe the ebay rep who I bought from (mqtautoparts) and he emailed me instrctions for......INGEN CAI!!!
he stated the systems were pretty much similar so I should be ok with that.
The systems were not exactly similar, but I was able to make due. The bomz kit did not come with 2 vibramounts or the plastic mold lining I saw pictured in the INGEN diy from these forums.
fitment i would say is not puzzle piece perfect, but everything feels solid and holding tight so far.
biggest let down is that i bought an AEM 2.5 inch dry flow cone filter to go with it and it didn't fit! So I had to throw the filter that came with the bomz kit on it, and just looking at it, it looks to be better than the AEM plain looking synthetic filter, but thats looks alone. I know airconditioning filters differ so I expect the car filters to be same concept and the AEM to be better, just didnt have one that fit with me.
put the wheel back on and hoppped in the car to turn her on and what do you know...cel
looked under the hood again and what do you know...the maf wires weren't plugged into the maf sensor! So i tried the car again and no cel!
let it idle for 5-10 mins then took her for a drive and I LOOOOVEEE IT!!
The install seemed like a huge PITA because I've never workd on a car before besides cosmetic mods, the install wasnt exactly like the INGEN instructions, which I know it isnt an INGEN, but I had to make due, and I had to jimmy rig some areas.
But all in all it sounds awesome. I know the gains are minimal, but i think i feel a difference, it might just because I want to hear the sound so i'm harder on the pedal more. WHo knows, but I like it so far. Sounds nice and throaty.
**note I do have an occasional knocking noise coming from the bend in the cai hitting the side of the car frame. I will be looking for a fix for this and let you know how it worked out.
took me about 2.5 hours of screwing around with the car
overall bomz cai kit = 50 + shipping = $64
AEM dryflow filter = 45 + shipping = $55
Not too shabby imo for someone just wanting to try a first time mod on their car, and I don't plan on having a show car so I'm happy...pictures/videos to come this weeknd

lol i know what knocking sound your talking about, i folded up a Kleenex and put it between my cai and the frame of the car lol, very ghetto.. but u cant even see it..believe it or not its worked for more than 6 months! LOL
im surprised that kleenex has stayed in there! I'll probably try to find some weather stripping, some rubber of some sort to line the metal frame or wrap around the intake....lots if electrical tape could even do the trick im thinking
