Default Mystery Vibration

I have an '07 TC with 60k on it. Its stock. I get a vibration that's subtle at about 80 mph sometimes its there sometimes its not. I have replace the tires and its still there. I'm not sure if its a bearing or what. Is there something that's common? I'm trying to narrow it down. It not effected by breaking or turning that I can tell. I generally notice it on the hwy at around 80 in both the seat and the steering wheel. Again its not strong but it bugs me.

when you got new tires, did they say anything about not being able to balance one or more rims. cause you might have a bent rim or something.

i have the exact same thing! at 70 i have a light vibration...i drives me insane. it is barely noticeable but there. i rotated my tires and it felt the same (didnt move from seat to steering wheel). it is a vibration frequency that matches the wheels speed and not the engine. I have had them rebalanced several times at diff. locations adn they are balanced i believe. I can't figure it out. I have cheap Nexen Tires so i am thinking that i have a slight flat spot is technically balanced... i have recently been able to ignore it after riding in friends cars that are "smooth." Our cars really do have a smooth ride and low tire noise....

GL and keeps us updated if you find out what it is. Hopin its not a bearing...

Yeah im gonna look into it some more. Never had trouble balancing them. I'm thinking it something going bad and its just not bad enough to pinpoint yet. See if this post gives me any ideas to look into.

also (might be highly unlikely) but it couldn't hurt to have your alignment checked out to after you check your balance.

I have the same problem with my Scion Xb. I had my alignment done. Tires rotated and rebalanced. And I still get this vibration in my seat and steering wheel around 70 and 80mph

Default update

Found SOME of it. Read another post that said to lift the car then check for "play" in the wheel. this was supposed to be a way to chk wheel bearings. Seem weird but I was willing to try anything. There was NO play very solid. I spun the rears and noticed a scrape on the pass side wheel. Using a long screw driver against the frame I had someone spun the wheel as I looked at the clearance between the tip the the screw driver and the rotor. Found the rotor was ever so slightly warped. I know from personal experience when a front rotor is warped you feel it in the steering wheel. My old cars either had drums or were never effected. I swapped out the rotor with a new one and notice allot of it has gone away. The rest I believe to be a flat spot on the tire. Thats another story alltogether. I rotated that tire to the front and confirmed this. Anyways... Dont wash your car after a drive. Well you can just dont drench your brakes while they are hot. The sudden quench can warp them. I always knew this but at some point I didnt let them cool and it must have warped the rotor a little, enough to warp it a tad. Hope maybe this ends up being some help to finding a source of viration for someone else.

alignment can not cause a vibration

check for bent rim.s choppy tire's, balance, and axle's

yeah you are gunna want to check your axles cuz a wheel bearing you would be able to feel it all the time.

^^ a wheel bearing would actually change vibration as you steer at higher speed, like around a curve on the highway. I've seen that a couple of times.

And the OP did find the problem, the rotors/discs were warped badly. If it was still there they should look into the rear hub/wheel bearing (one unit) because if the rotor was that messed up it could've hurt the bearing too.

And I also agree with the OP don't let water get on your brakes when you're washing your car, that would definitely warp them. Have seen that many times with other cars including the Scion's.

any reason why you're driving 80mph ? considering the car only goes about 120mph you can expect the car to get a little "nervous"

^^ that's a poor excuse to justify a vibration in the car. Wow, do you work for Toyota or something? have stock in them? You sure act like it's no big deal. Yeah until its YOUR problem in YOUR car.

Nervous? That car should be rock solid at 80mph. And yes the OP has a problem with the car which is/will be fixed once it's determined. Shame on you for telling people that misinformation!
