I posted this a long time ago and didn't get many answers. In my car, it sounded like a clicking or a sparking and I thought that maybe it was the alternator. But I really didn't know.

Is it (or was it if you have it fixed), very random or constant? Did it sound like a click that you might hear when making sparks (like static electricity maybe). And it only happened in park right? Did it happens everytime the car was in park, or just sometimes?

I am asking to tell if this is the same problem I have in my car.

I'd say it does it everytime I push the car a little hard or have driven it for more than 15 minutes.

It happens mostly when in park but I hear it also when I'm in Drive stopped at a traffic light.

The noise is loud clicking noise.

Sorry for the ignorance, but don't all scions/toyota engines have that clicking sound anyway? I know that's like one of the main annoyances for our cars is that fact that the valves constantly make a clicking sound, although it is not random, its constant.

For example mine has a steady rhythmic tick or click sound in park and it increases if you just barely touch the gas as well so it's definetly in time with what the engine is doing. It sounds normal under normal crusing speed driving but if you stomp it and it gets to I'd say 4.5k and up you hear kinda hear it again. I've been told its normal for all toyo engines, but maybe the sound I'm describing is different than the one your experiencing.

^^ Thats the normal VVTI clicking and yes all toyotas have it, this is a extra louder version of that VVTI clicking which now can be attributed to ISV

Mine doesn't do that at all. I understand the sound Claudia is describing about because the it is very apparent on my friend's tC.

Hmm... not the same clicking I hear.
I dunno what mine is. But I guess it wouldn't hurt to try that gunk stuff to see if it gets rid of it. I guess I'll figure out what's clicking when it blows up.
