We tried some SeaFoam in blackonblack91's tC today. We'll let you know the results if any.

I guess I'll just have to go back again
and then again
and then some more until they make a down payment for a new tC

Ok, so the SeaFoam we added in blackonblack91's car toned the sound down and smoothed out the idle.

After some careful listening, it sounded like the ticking noise was coming from his MAF sensor area on the intake. I came up with the idea to completly unplug the MAF sensor for a few min and plug it back in. We turned on the car and to our amazement the loud ticking sound was gone!

what are you serious!?

Please update me in a week or two with the results, if it's really fixed.

Hey C, do you think it could possibly be the vacuum switching valve? I've heard mine a few times from inside the car, its really weird. Its like with the same wires that go with the MAF. The first time I heard it I had just cranked it up and driven to the store and when I put it in park I heard it. Popped the hood, located the source of the sound and actually just held that part in my hand and it quieted down instantly. It's very noisy whenever its doing whatever it is that it does. I've heard it like 3 or 4 times since I've owned her so I'd say its random but believe me when I say the sound I'm talking about was loud and unforgettable lol but it def. makes a ticking/clicking sound. But then again so do our injectors...and valves. Why must Toyos have so many noises?

I'm quite ignorant regarding the engine bay, all I know is that you just described what I hear BUT mine def. comes from the engine block. Not sure where the MAF/vacuum switching valve are located

I also noticed that when I switched to premium gas and fuel cleaner, the noise went away. Then I switched back to regular and it came back.

Hmm, there are too many noises under there. I just went out to check mine out and see if I could get it to make the noise and no luck, however now I do have a "knocking" noise coming from the block itself...its not loud but def. doesn't sound kosher. Then theres the fast/loud clicking sounds from the injectors firing. The VSV is located on the same wire loom with the MAF on the 07s and on my CAI its sits right on a bracket. Its got two hoses running to it but from what I read I don't know what exactly it does b/c one hose comes from a coolant line to the throttle body, from the TB to the VSV, from the VSV to some where under the car towards the direction of the firewall and meets up and runs parallel with a small hose that comes off the fuel rail. I only use 91 oct in mine though so don't know if that plays a difference, it seems if a push the gas pedal slightly to like maybe just under 1k then the "knocking" noise I hear goes away and when I let off the gas it comes audible again but its in step with the engine like when the engine is slowing down back to idle revs the knocking slows down til idle then its kinda constant yet some times it seems like it skips a beat or two.
