Default New Intake?

So im buying a new intake and everyone is telling me that the CAI's can get F'ed up in rain going through puddlies and stuff, though the CAI will give you more power than a short ram. after debating for a while ive decided to go with the Weapon R Secret Weapon and a Weapon R Cold Air box. Tell me what you guys think and if there is a better solution. thanks

The CAI on a tC sits behind the bumper high enough from the ground where you will not have any problems with rain or water puddles. You would have a problem however if you somehow managed to submerge the front end of your car into a body of water. I know that the K&N CAI includes a filter cover just as an extra precaution if you did happen to get a few speckles of water up in there.

hows the gain on that compared to the Weapon R with cold air box?
And does anyone have a video clip of how the Weapon R sounds?

They all basically sound the same and have a whistle sound at mid throttle. CAIs will give you more of a power increase higher in the rpms whereas SRIs give you more low end.

I have the K&N and wouldn't trade it for anything else. I tried the Weapon R but sold it 1 day later.

OH, the "cold air box" is junk since all it does is heat up to extremely hot temps. Don't touch it until you've sat your car alone for about 30 minutes.

yeah, it's nice that we have a splash gaurd underneath where it would mount and it's not wide open. To really help keep some water spray out, don't take that bumper cap off. I have mine off but come winter time, when it snows I'm going to put it back on. dont' want too much sluch to get stuck to the filter and soak in.

It heats up too fast.......you can heat wrap it to help that though................b/c it's an aluminum/tin/sheet metal box, it'll absorb heat much faster b/c it's a less dense metal than steel.

This might just be hearsay but i've read that the quality of the weapon R SRI was bad...something like pieces were falling off and getting sucked into the engine. (Not saying it's true...just what i heard.)

I have a TRD CAI and i wouldn't trade it for the world! It has a bypass valve incase i do get water sucked in it.

I first had my dealer put on a CAI for me and they gave me the K&N typhoon CAI by mistake...it was TOO loud and didn't give me enough power (plus then intake comparison on this site says that is has a bad A/F ratio). So i made them take it out and give me a full refund--I installed the TRD by myself. It is loud when you want it to be--the rest of the time it is audible and very sexy.

I would agree, you need to stay away from the "cold air box" It will heat up too fast. Just think about it, a metal box in an already hot engine compartment. Hummm.
Anyway get the CAI and forget about the rain. Most brands, Injen, AEM (TRD) have
bypass valves that are going to prevent this. Also you are not going to be taking this in the lake right? HAHA
So pay the money and enjoy the sound and power increase you get and you will not be unhappy.

There isn't a bypass valve on the injen...though you can cut the piping and place an AEM one in there if you want to. But instead of that much effort i would just buy the TRD--if you can afford it.

Weird how a lot of people say that the K&N isn't that great, but a lot of people on this site have it on their profiles. I'm not pointing anyone out about this. Just stating a comment.
