Default New Intake issues.

I just installed a Weapon-R Secret Weapon intake. I have noticed two things right off the bat. I am experiencing some engine knocking, and I hear a slight whistle sound. Not to concerned about the whistle, but wonder if the engine knock could be related to the new intake or just crappy gas? Any rumination would be appreciated.

Shouldn't be any knocking from an intake install... are you getting a CEL?

the intake in general is much louder, what do you mean a knocking sound? is it only at idle that you hear it? It may be the CAI rubbing against the fender.

^ Not likely the fender thing... the Weapon R is a short ram I believe.

No CEL and the car seems to be running great. Could it be raspy from the exhaust?

Since no one has said anything about the whisteling...

It's perfectly normal, all aftermarket intakes give off a whistle sound at diff. rpms.

Are you sure you are not hearing a clicking noise at idle. If you are talking about the clicking at idle its the Fuel Vapor Sensor. Since the stock air box was plastic it kinda covered the noise. Since this is metal you can hear it better. Hope that helped.

Just throwing it out there, but did you give your ECU a chance to readjust? Standard procedure is to let it idle after the install for five-ten minutes to get used to the increased air.

Or do you mean the ticking noise coming from the engine at idle? That's also a normal effect of the intake install...

Hope you get it figured out.

you probably just need to let the ECU adjust because the air flow sensor is not in the same position that it was with the stock air filter and the whistling is normal...because of the intake sucking more air

For whatever reason the knocking noise has disapated. Maybe the ECU needed extra time to readjust. thanks for all the input.

the whistle is not just due to the intake, the stock airbox whistles on its own, turn down the radio and you will hear it. It is just louder with the intake.

You may just be hearing normal engine noise, only louder now that you have the intake on. The more you listen, the more you will hear

hey everyone, does anyone make a CARB-legal intake? (preferably a CAI) I looked at TRD, DC, Injen, and another one but no one says it's CARB certified (yet). The cops are pretty bad where I live, so I dont wanna have to change out the intakes whenever I get a ticket. thanks!

Hey Twilliams AEM has a 50 state legal CAI prt # 21-568C with the new dry, no oil airfilter. The box says C.A.R.B exempt or pending exemption 50 state legal. I got it for $229 with silver powdercoat. I think it comes in blue, black, and polished.
