Default New to the TC, HELP!!

Hey guys, my name is Kevin, I actually own a chevy cobalt. I love the TC, would have been my first choice, but since my brother in law worked at chevy i got a great deal. anyways, that's about me.

my brother just picked up a scion tc, and i'm wondering which aftermarket header if any has a cat on it? the only ones i could find were megan racing and dc sports, neither of which have one... is there any out there that do?

i searched for a good hour and a half because i hate when noobs come on my site and ask stupid questions that have been answere a million times... so if it's out there, my bad, but i really really looked!

thxs

no, my brother IN LAW i got the cobalt from... my brother got the Tc... 2 different people... they're both good cars... my cobalt (base model engine) is definitely faster than his tc, but the tc feels much nicer overall... it feels much more expensive than my car, even though mine was more expensive... i'm not very impressed with the handling of the Tc at all, but that can be fixed i guess.

well anyways thanks for your answer, i'm sure i'll be on here to find out more about the car and to help my brother with his.

omg...did he just say a base model cobalt with 140 hp is faster than a tc with 160hp and handles better? well the stock tires do suck, but still...thems fighten words! where is this guy, i want to show him how slow tc's are.

yeah, you did say my cobalt with the base engine is faster. if you said my base model engine with this this and this is faster then yeah. but you are implying that base model cobalts are faster.

thanks bro, and no worries... i'm not some punk ___ kid that thinks my car is the best out there... believe me, if i wanted a race car i wouldn't have gotten a base model cobalt

but thanks for the welcome... i'm hoping to learn more about the scion so i can help my brother... i've always done all my own work on my cobalt, so i'm familiar with how things work but not the specific parts for the scion... i'm sure i'll learn by just looking around though

give him a break about the tc vs cobalt junk guys. So far there are no aftermarket headers with a cat, most likely there never will be. the CEL(check engine light) will come on with the DC header(that's what I have) also invest in a resonator to cut down on the rasp, and a antifouler for the 2nd O2 sensor( the one in the "s-pipe") which will turn off the CEL. Happy modding on both the TC and the COBALT

yea i figured the cel would happen... i wonder why they don't make one with a cat... i guess it's easy enough to swap out for inspection though... shouldn't take more than a half hour to swap a manifold as long as the bolts aren't being ____y... you guys have it easy, on my car the manifold is in the back of the engine, and there's 12 bolts not 5. this is gonna be a walk in the park!

the only bolt that will give you a headache is the one on the lower left side

damn dude, did i ever say that the tc is slow? no, i didn't... but if you want to consider a mid - high 15 second car "fast", you need to do some research... it's fast for what it is... but in the grand scheme of things it's still a mid to high 15 second car...

as far as the handling, yes, the suspension is very soft... that's much better for everyday driving... but aggressive driving in the twisties, if you want to be able to keep up the speed better have some suspension mods done...

i don't get why people have to jump all over someone just because they have a different car... i wasn' tlooking for trouble, i wasn't looking to call people's cars slow, i said the Tc would have been my first choice, right? so untwist your panties and let's just relax.

and for the record, stock manual cobalt vs. stock manual tc is pretty much a drivers race... both run mid to high 15's with decent drivers... the cobalt has 15 hp less, (it has 145 not 140) but has only 8 tq less. it also weighs less. so it can go either way. we're talking about a wheel horsepower difference of what, maybe 5 or 10hp? that makes it a drivers race.

alrighty then. yeah, the tc is alittle soft on the stock suspension, but if i have learned anything from initial d, you can overcome sloppy suspension with good technique. i live down a narrow, twisty back road, and i learned what the car will do and how you can compensate. but then again, whether or not i could drive that well on the oem tires, i guess i'll never know. but seriously, just changing out the stock tires makes a world of difference. now i have full trd supspension and i attack the road like like i'm possessed. but seriously, if you take the time to really get familiar with the tc, it is an awesome car even in stock form.

yea, anything is fixable!!

i've driven my brothers car twice and i really liked it alot... he just ordered an intake, and will eventually do some other stuff, so he'll be walking me shortly! until tuning comes out for my car i'm pretty much maxed out unless i start ripping apart the internals, which i have no plans for as of now. right now we're looking at intake, which he ordered, and and S pipe to start since that's what seems to be the most restrictive. we were gonna start with a header but didn't like the fact that there's no cat.
