Default o2 sensor

While installing my megan header, I ran into a problem..First off, the o2 sensor was a pain 2 remove and when I finally got it off..the screw was stripped! Good news is that the header is on and runs sweet..Bad news is that I riding around without an o2 sensor and a cel light is on. the Cel doesn't bother me but, just how important is the o2 sensor? Can I jus leave it off?

That is the Air fuel sensor, and yes you do need it. I wouldn't drive around to long without it if I were you.

The car will not be able to adjust the air/fuel ratio. You can get a new one at any dealership, but it is costly.

That's good 2 know metal...I found this website called Parts Train & they have the o2 sensor replacement for like $30 without the connector, but that's shouldn't be a problem..I'll just use the original one..

just a warning, that most likely will not work. Our first o2 sensor is a one-off wideband unit that meters differently from those universal sensors. As far as I know, you have to buy the oem one. One other thing that may work that hasn't been addressed is using an o2 sensor replacement for and 05-06 camry with the same engine. I found a replacement for that at rockauto I think for 80 something. But no one knows if that'll even work.

crap
thanks 4 the warning...so if it doesn't work, u think I can splice the wire and use the new o2 sensor and the existing oem wires? damn.. if dats not da case then I wasted 30something dollars and 2days for the part.

I'll be honest, I haven't tried it myself and hope I wont have to when I get around to doing the install. But others have had the same experience as you and found that only the factory one will work.

I know metal said his car ran a high15 sumthing w/o the o2 sensor and a low 15 with the sensor, but technically...how do we know when the o2 sensor works when it is on???

why is there such a high possibility of this happening just from intstalling new headers?

http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/EFI/m...gensensor.html
I found it in one of the scionlife forums..since I already wasted $ on a universal sensor, I minus well try it

The one on the S-pipe is a comparison sensor. It is there to check to make sure that the catalytic converter is working properly. The reason people have to install anti-foulers is so that the sensor is pulled out of the exhaust stream and reads less contaminants in the exhaust. If the sensor is not there the engine will throw a "catalytic converter malfunction" error and your engine might go into safe mode after a while. While the 2nd O2 sensor does not control A/F ratio, (that is the job of the first one) it is very important to the emissions of your vehicle. Bottom line...put it back in!

its there for a reason. i got mine for 275-280 otd. tracktimes doesnt prove that you can run without the sensor.

Same thing happened to me. Bought one at the dealership for $230. It cost more than the damn headers. Check this out: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...063&highlight=
