o2 sensor
Hey everyone that is having problems with stripped o2 sensors on the header, i had the same problem, i was told by a scion tech that there are 2 reasons that this happens. When they build the car at the factory, some of the o2 sensors are cross-threaded, dont know why, but it happens once every 500 cars he said. Another problem ( if u don't happen to fall into the 500 car category ) is that when people are installing their headers, they are not waiting long enough for the stock manifold and o2 sensor to cool down enough. This is the majority of people that are too excited to install and don't take proper preparations. Im not saying this is everyone, but if you just wait about 1-2 hours before install, the o2 sensor won't be as hot, and will come off a lot easier, taking into consideration that u are also using a o2 sensor socket. On another note, the same tech informed me that putting on an o2 sensor from another car even though it has the same engine, will essentially F*^K with ur ecu. I bought my o2 sensor for $200, and have never had a problem since. Don't go to the dealership please. They will find some reason to void ur warranty. Now am i saying that all this is true? No, but these wise words came from someone who has worked on toyotas for 20 years, so u can take the advice or not. That is all up to u. Hope this long A$$ post helps all u out there.
