Question Oil consumption problems

Hi, everyone,

I have a 08 Scion tC.
I am going to attend an arbitration meeting within two weeks, to discuss issues related to excessive burning oil. I am trying to obtain specific data about this topic, but it's being difficult to find technical data.
I've read that many Scion owners believe that it is "normal" for this car to use too much oil. I believe that there is something wrong with the engine and we all should learn the truth about it and not just call it 'normal'.
So if you guys can give me a hint about where to find data, I will appreciate it very much.

Thank you,
Carlos

The "9" is right next the "0". I'll give him a break this time, but Carlos, next time review your post. This is definitely not hard to miss.

Change out your valve seals and your rings.

minor oil consumption is pretty normal for all engines. excessive oil consumption is symtomatic of a problem.

as for data, sorry, you're aren't really going to find any because it isn't like everytime somebody changes oil in a 2AZFE or any engine, they measure how much oil they recover after draining the oil pan and post it online.

There are many posts where people are reporting using more than a quart between changes, you will have to search for them. I have used less than half a quart in 53k but I am not using conventional oil in my 06xb.

is your car factory or moded? How do you drive your car (meaning always bashing or taking it easy)? How often are doing oil changes? How often have you changed the air filter?

The car has 52000 miles. We drive around 20 miles/day and our driving is normal. We don;t drive it like crazy. The service is done evey 5000 using our prepaid service at the Toyota dealer. It burns around 2 qts every 3500 miles. The dealer says it is 'normal', but I believe it is not. For my hearing, I need to arrive with technical data, to contradict qhat they say. Do the air filter has anything to do with oil consumption?

Yes and no. Not changing the air filter will cause dirty air in the engine, accelerating wear.

Really dude, you are coming on here for evidence for you hearing? First off, because some guy with the username: "BLAHBLAH" said that I should be burning such and such oil instead of what i'm burning now... That is not going to hold up whatsoever. They are going to laugh you out of the room. Or by taking a pole on here to see if majority of people burn as much as you is not evidence either. There isn't really evidence in a case like this. Toyota says one thing, you say another... what do expect out of this? They'll tell you to buy a different car. Don't come on here for evidence for court. The only evidence you have is that Toyota agreed with you about what you are burning, and they said it was okay. That is your evidence. Hopefully you have talked with the upper most people at Toyota prior to this court date of yours, because those people have competence and should back you up for the most part. But if those are the people that are saying that 2 quarts is fine, then dude, you're case is closed right there. And I really hope you have been dealing with a lawyer as well if you are seriously bringing this to court. There is no reason for you to be "collecting technical data" as you put it. You need to leave all this up to the lawyer.

2 qts is a lot for 52k miles. I'm over 93k on my 08 tc (boosted for about 11k) and still only burning about 1/2 qt between changes. Before boosting, I used conventional then partial synthetic, changed every 5k miles. After boosting, full synthetic and change every 3k miles or so.

See if this thread works but if you just search for "Oil Consumption" you will get some pertinent threads mixed in with other ones that are not related. It appears there is a TSB if your car uses too much oil.

I'm sorry about the mistake. The model is a 2008, not a 98.
Thank you for your input, you guys!
