They talk about bypass pressure, but they don't say when
theirs opens up. And I guess you are supposed to clean out
the filter material between changes?

hmmm... 5-6 hp from an oil filter? I'm not sure about that but the rest sounds cool... my question is how do you clean it? put it in the dishwasher?

We recently had these come into our shop and have put one on our new ls 1 powered 4 seat prerunner.

It ran at a recent desert race in the unlimited class and took second, while running this filter.

So basically what I'm saying is this filter looks cool, and filters oil, and there wont be any dyno #'s from that car, so I can't help you there. It also hasn't been taken apart yet for cleaning either, so I can't tell you how much it's trapped from the broken in ls1 or is it ls2? can't remember, too tired.

and as far as cleaning goes, we have a solvent tank that we clean our other metal filters with, then follow up with some ultra strength brake cleaner.

If I could get some more information and a competitive price on these, would anyone be interested?

Mods, I'm not trying to spam, and if anyone wants them, I'd love to know what the commerce fee's are. Thanks

I can get them if anyone is interested. I have to double check the size before I put a quote out there. figure around a bill though.

If you're like me and run Mobil 1, K&N, and WIX filters, then you're used to paying $10-$15 a filter, which adds up fast, especially if you're running f/i and change oil every 3-5k miles.

Haven't gotten any information about HP #'s, but if my laptop dyno ever shows up I'm going to do a run with my current filter(toyota) then change to a new K&N or Mobil 1, measure readings, then change to the Ultra Filter and see if there is any difference, then drive for a few thousand miles and take it apart, then we'll see what goodies are inside.

anyone interested?

YES! Even using 'cheap' filters - I intend on buying 100 over the lifespan of the car. What I need to know is; how long will this filter last? what is the actual cleaning procedure? does it increase hp/gas mileage? and anything else pertinent to a cheapskate like myself.
I emailed these questions to the people behind the website in the link - no answer as of this am. Not real impressed with their 'customer service'

We're dealing with the actual manufacturer 'Ultra Filter', I don't know who hopupracing is.

I'll try and get all of your questions answered for you by tomorrow night.

If you don't have access to a solvent tank, you can use brake cleaner to clean it.

I can't get my laptop dyno program to work yet, so the hp/gas mileage #'s will come when I get it working.

Is 5-6HP even possible with just an oil filter?

I'm not really sure about any hp gain with an oil filter.

most conventional filters don't even filter under hard acceleration anyway, they usually only filter under 15psi. from what I've heard.

I'm not sure if this filter is always filtering(a plus for racing applications) or not.

If scantool.net ever gets back to me to help me figure out whats wrong with my software I'll be able to do some runs and see if there's any HP gain.

The filters more of a good idea to be able to take apart and see just what your motor might be wearing out, as well as the one time purchase

Hey, no hurry on this end. I've got lots of time....aiming at that 300,000 mark.
Once you get your data, I will then weigh the cost benefit (hp and/or mpg and/or filter&cleaning cost - plus the inconvenience) Seeing how I change my oil & filter, or just the filter, every three to four weeks; I could get real tired of the brake clean process.
The oil change [brand, type, and miles] is likely one of those "I can't make up my mind" issues that plagues me continually.
