Oil light flickers after engine build
#22
The OCV filter would not restrict oil to the sending unit. It only filters oil going to the VVTI actuator. You could have a blocked oil passage in the block or head, thats really my only guess if its actually running. if you were getting no oil pressure on the bottom end at idle, odds are youd have spun another bearing by now.
^^ This was actually one of the first things that came to mind even before I read the rest of the thread. Whether it's you building it or an experience quality shop, it doesn't take much material getting into any of the channels in the block to make that happen. Of course there are several gremlins that can get into an engine build, but foreign matter into either an oil or coolant channel is probably one of the easiest to have happen, even when being careful. Let us know how it turns out...

Yeah without plugging that hole, youll get nearly 0 oil pressure during low flow (idle) and significantly reduced at higher rpm. Youre very lucky if you havent destroyed the motor. I drilled and tapped the hole for 5/16. Its aluminum, so very easy to machine. I also put JB weld on the bolt before I screwed it in to completely seal the threads.

Success! No more oil light flickering! She idles a whole lot better now and no more vvti code! I'm about to take her for a test drive but it seems a lot more solid and healthy. I'll keep you guys posted.

Yeah, the oil pressure problem was solved! I plugged that hole and it worked perfectly. However, now I'm afraid I'm starting to hear what sounds like a spun bearing. So ill be needing to check that out soon.
