ok, bout to get a CAI few questions
im about to get that injen intake that is on sale... few quick questions:
1. I recently bought a KnN air filter... will this have to be pitched in order to install the CAI, basically making that a useless buy? or does that stay in with a new CAI?
2. once the CAI is installed, or afterward, do i need to do anything with the ecu? if so, what do i need to do?
3. is it an easy enough install if i have a friend who is very car competent help me out?
thanks guys

1: Yes, now useless - except you might be able to sell it.
2: After it is installed, you will need to disconnect the negative of the battery, wait a few minutes, reconnect. Then start the car and let it idle for 10-15 min.
3: Yes.

3: Yes.
1. If the k&n was for the stock box it is useless.
2. wont have to do anything to the ecu as far as tuning if that is what you are asking
3. there is a thread on here where kids installed one, so yes it is easy

basically disconnect battery.
undo wire to MAF
undo MAF
take out old air box, disconnect from throttle body
I find it easier to install CAI by taking off front bumper,so do some don't.......
I also find it easier to instal Injen by undoing the fender bolts and moving fender out jsut like 1/2" to clear the bracket ont eh CAI as you push it through, you can dent fender pretty easy, thin sheet metal and big pipe with bracket right up against it.
once it is all back together hook battery back up and run motor for 5 minutes,no revving.......then take a gentle drive........gentle........then it should be good to go.....ECU will relearn most of its new flow rate during the idle and drive.

anytime you take apart a electrical part on a 12v system unhook the battery.
but no the ECU will throw a code if you do not reset the ECU by unplugging battery.....also not unhooking the battery you risk blowing the MAF when you unhook, the chance is slim but it can and will happen.........do it right the first time and you will not need to buy new parts when it goes wrong.

1. Is the knN air filter a drop in? if so it has no use for the cai becaus eit uses a cone.
2. No you don't need to reprogram anything.
3. Its easy except tedious. Your friend must know alot of stuff about cars. If not set aside about 3 hours or so.

thx guys... one last thing, tho it probably wont make a difference in my getting the cai....
some say the gas mileage improves a bit, some say its no real difference, others say its a slight decrease....
any opinions from anyone who owns one? and injen was proven to be the best cai of the group correct?

no worries......water in the intake only if puddle is as high as the filter to submerge.
just remember the best way to burn up anything sensor wise is to unhook while still energised.DC currant takes very little to screw stuff up in a car.
After reading thread after thread on here about person unhooking this and installing that with battery installed still and it is the end cause of the part failing always unhook battery first just to be safe.It is harder to blow the main fuse from battery to distro box than any other fuse in the car.
the ECU will learn without being unhooked but most the time it throws a code so may as well just unhook and start fresh and safe.
