Ok honestly, how is the K&N intake?
I would honestly never put a K&N intake in my car, an intake you can get from autozone or pep boys, like really now? But I was reading Modified Mag and they beefed up a Cobalt SS, and they put an exaust system by I forget, but they also gave it a K&N intake? I mean for whoever was modding it, they had to be positive about putting in a autozone intake system, how good/bad is this system? Its about $170 in autozone, for sound purposes only, is this an alright budget system?

thats the stupidest thing ive heard in a while.
its not an autozone intake, its K&N, autozone just carries that brand.
and K&N is great, they been around for ages.
thats like saying i dont wash my car with any soap or cleaning products that can be found at autozone or use their airfresheners.
the ones at autozone are usually not model specific CAI or SRI. they are just cone filters or drop in "high performance" replacements

Well, as far as intakes go, they are up there with the others I guess most of the time. None do much but sound and look pretty on the tC. But honestly, most of them have the worst design behind mounting I have seen in a long time. The K&N is known for breaking the bracket it mounts to off the top of the motor mount. I know this from the one someone gave me, which I ran for a while until it broke my bracket (Some metal and some good epoxy fixed it) so I took it off my car and put it in the parts bin They mount a part that moves to a pot metal bracket meant to hold something that is bolted in 3 other places... bad idea.
Autozone is a joke of a parts house, and any of their econo parts are junk for the most part.. many mechanics wont even install their parts if you ask these days. But just because it is there does not make it an autozone part.

i actually have a k & n intake in my tc for about 3 years now, and is absolutely awesome, theres a nice whistling sound when u let off the pedal in a higher gear , and then when u get on it, at around 3 and 3.5 rpms in 3rd gear it makes a nice deep humming... the only thing that was dumb, was where the pipe goes down toward the left wheel, i had to cut a small maybe 1/2" rubber hose, about 6-7 inches long, down the middle and make it hug the metal, b/c it was like slowly sawing at my intake pipe.. it fixed the problem and doesnt even move

wtf? K&N has been around forever, Autozone, Pep Boys, etc etc etc simply carry the brand and can order for you.
But does this mean you won't buy anything from bosch, 3m, rain-x, etc etc etc from them? Common!

it is garbage, i know, i had the braket replaced twice, then got a trd CAI.
don't know why they dropped the ball so bad on this one, i had a K&N FPIK on my old explorer and it was great, but this cai on the tc sucks, and not in a good way.
