P0420 Code 2005 TC-Help!!!!
I live in Las Vegas, but moving to LA-CA this weekend, also My LV registration is up June 10th. My Check engine light is on with a code of P0420. I have 2005 with no mods, just over 100,000 Miles, Noticed that the engine started burning oil more quickly after I hit 100,000 Miles... I have no oil Leaks and have not noticed any blue or white smoke out of my Exhaust. Please Help, I need to fix this ASAP!!! I have a friend that suggested to just change my whole exhaust.
Thanks!

Yeah, just remove the secondary o2 sensor from the spipe, thread it into the defouler, and thread the defouler into the spipe. The defouler basicly limits the exhaust that reaches the sensor.
You will need to have the code reset after you do it with a scan guage.
This will get rid of the cel, but not necessarily fix the catalytic converter inefficiency. In md, they just check for cels, so this would work to pass inspection. I don't live in california, so I'm not sure if they visually inspect for such devices or meter exhaust in inspections. If they do, you would fail.

What ever is broke is still going to remain broken. The anti fouler just "trick" the sensor.
As for clearing the code after you fix the issue or use the anti fouler. Disconnect the battery for some time (30 minutes - go have a beer ) and then reconnect. BUT if your registration is due then do what the other guy said which is to use scan guage or go to autozone and ask them to clear it.

either way, you still will have to complete the rediness test drive cycles. as with clearing the codes with a scan tool, reseting the battery will cause all readiness tests to reset. if you do not complete these driving cycles you will fail the emissions test.
