Default Passing Inspection...

Hey guys,

I need some help. I'm running a standalone ECU and, more importantly, catless. Obviously I can't pass an inspection legitimately, but I'm worried about getting caught after one very close call recently. Any suggestions? From what I understand "buying" stickers is the best way to go, but I don't have any friends that know of places nearby that do so. I'm in NW Jersey. I don't expect any names to be posted here, but if you could pm me I'd be VERY grateful

Mods, if you find this a sore subject and need to lock the topic then I apologize, but I'm desperate!

Not sure about NJ but I'm pretty sure that falsifying inspections is even worse than not having them done. Not sure about the details behind how you almost got caught but I would hate to think of what the reprecussions would be to tack on a forgery charge to a registration violation and fix it ticket. On top of which if I had a shop that was helping me out with inspection issues I would never post their information on the net for fear that they wouldn't be in business the next day.

Still I see a couple paths you can go down. First go back to the shop you bought all that stuff from and see if they can steer you in the right direction. They may not do inspections but they may be able to direct you to where their other customers get help from. Second, you can reinstall the stock ECU and Catted down pipe just for inspection purposes. That is if you still have the OEM stuff. The next thing you could do is check into your state laws about kit built cars and possibly register it as a one off ride. This will take a lot of work but is more but should be able to be done. I've talked to several people that have done this with both bikes and cars and while they said it was a pain the end result was they have legal registrations.

Go and order a high flow cat or two and have it welded on. I plan on buying a Ptuning exhaust sometime in the future that already has a cat.
