Phantom Grip
Who is running one of these? Are they worth putting in the car? Will it act like a real LSD or is it going to be like running a solid front axle? Also what exactly does the phantom grip do?
Not many (if any) are running these. They are cheap but it is expensive to install (or very involved if you do this kind of stuff for yourself). It really is only worth it if say you had to replace you clutch for whatever reason. It does act like a LSD and unfortunately I do not know exactly how it changes the differential.
Just googled for some info. $400 on their webpage. Lots less than Quaife/TRD, although Quaife/TRD is a true LSD, this PhantomGrip is a locker device on the stock spider set. I'll google some more and see if there are any negative experiences out there. This looks like a nice alternative.

Raamaudio ran one in his auto-X Matrix for a few years, and had one in his tC-- which is pretty much good enough for me.
Phantom Grip has the advantage over Quaife in at least one mechanical aspect: with a Quaife, if you lift a drive wheel in a turn, you get 0% power transmission to either tire; Phantom Grip will continue to drive the planted wheel.
I simply cannot justify the cost of a Quaife in the tC. For the same money, I could buy the Phantom Grip, a Fidanza, a Stage 2 clutch, and MT90 to fill the trans for the saem money.

I have it installed. Love it, Doesn't effect steering at all! I installed mine myself. The differential is the VERY LAST part to come out of the tranny when installing it. In another words you have to completely tear down the tranny. Not nearly as bad as one would think.
thats cool.. i should be testing for my a2 and a3 this next testing, but havent really picked up a study guide. So its working out for ya then? thats cool. did you have to shave down the spider gears to get it to clear right?
