Default PLEASE HELP - 06 Scion tC STALLS OUT AND PROBS STARTING

Hey there, we need some serious advice.... we have a 2006 Scion tC - 6,000 miles. We have had numerous problems with teh engine just going dead mid drive. Sometimes there is power loss, and the engine light comes on...sometimes it will die, and sometimes it won't.

There doesn't seem to be rhyme or reason- it happens going slow, going fast, turning right, bumpy roads, flat roads etc.

Last time we got the codes read that the cylinders were misfiring....we have been told different things by different people. There is no warranty on this car so we can't take it to a dealer.

Please please help! all advice and suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.

How is there no warranty? Do you have aftermarket mods?

The tC comes with a factory warranty.

It's an 06, so time doesn't put it past the warranty. You don't have enough mileage to put it past the warranty. You are still under warranty! How about dem apples!

Even if you've modified your car, it is still under warranty unless they can PROVE that whatever mods you've done have caused the problems. Make an appt to bring it to the dealer and if they want to charge you an arm and a leg, just walk away. And hey, you may even find out whats wrong with the car!

The tC does have a very common (Camry) engine, so I'd hope there is some forgiveness when buying parts.

As for what it could be, I really can't explain. A mechanic you can trust should do that for you, though; I hope you got one!

I am not too sure how toyota determines misfire on this engine. I am guessing by sensing a sudden drop in crank speed like many other cars do. If that is the case, then you could have anything from a bad crank position sensor to low compression in one cylinder. First things first, have you inspected all plug wires and coil packs? Pull them off, inspect them well. Pull the plugs out while you are at it and inspect them well. Also, a quick compression test will tell you a lot as well. Along with the above a spark test should be run. All of those are fairly quick and easy tests to tell you what is wrong. But, if you have no warranty and dont feel comfortable working on it yourself, you need to enlist a trustworthy mechanic. The best one I know lives in OK... and is due for a fathers day call right about now so I should go Good luck and keep us updated!
