Default Question about MMW header & ceramic coating

I've noticed that on MMW/Weapon-R's website, under the description of their tC header, they caution you not to ceramic coat it- "Ceramic coating this header will void warranty and may cause it to warp." Does anyone know if coating this header would really cause it to warp (and how would it?), or are they just saying that because of the "don't mod this item" warranty? I'm interested in this header (unless I can somehow raise the cash for boost), but if I'm going to buy one, I'd want to get it coated before installing it.

Ceramic coating insulates heat, thus keeping it in the header and out of your engine bay which is a good thing, however, a header made of lesser quality steel will warp iff its not designed for a coating and too much heat is retained. Ideally, a ceramic coating is applied while the header is being manufactured. In my humble opinion the best header on the market right now is the DC Sports header, it seems to be the highest quality + already has the ceramic coating. Check this link out, Ptuning is runing a decent sale price

Yeah, I like how the DC sports comes coated already, but I want a true 4-2-1 design, and only MMW offers that. I've seen pics of a few people that coated a MMW header, but not anything past that...I have been hoping that one of those people would chime in.

Your explanation is good though...kind of how header wrap can crack headers from too much heat retained perhaps?

I believe Draxcaliber has a jet-hot coated mmw header on his tC..maybe drop him a PM to see what his thoughts are

yhep pretty sure Drax has the coated MMW.......my guess is like all the others it can lead to warping of the header, remember headers are just metal tubes and they increase and decrease in size as they heat and cool........if you super heat the metal by taking its way of moving heat it can crack and lead to failure.MMW header is pieced together and welded mutiple times as it is assymblied.......the DC or other are jsut one tube tahtleads to the collector then to the flange......the MMW welds could crack.......kinda comman with metal and welds.......just my guess.

but honestly I would say it is fine to do the coating.......the heat differnace under the hood is a lot.........bad part is you will not get the nice gold to blue to purple fade the MMW gives.......it really does look nice.

pm replied.

yeah, my weapon-r header is jet hot coated extreme sterling matte black finish. i haven't had a single problem and it has been on the tc for over a year and probably about...24k miles now.

i mainly decided to do it because i was worried that the exposed header without a heat shield might be bad for the supercharger, and so far everything is working fine and dandy.
