Questions about the TRD Cold Air Intake
Hi,
Im new here. I've pretty much decided Im gonna get a 2006 tC in the next month or so, and just wanted to ask people here about the TRD Cold Air Intake offered direct from Scion.
First, Im kinda confused that on the site it says "intended for off highway use only" - what does that mean, whats the point of something you can't use in normal everyday driving, and is it legal in Ohio?
Also, does anyone know what the estimated hp/torque increase is from this specific CAI?
Last question - for anyone who has the TRD intake, how much noise does it cause, does it sound good?
Thanks,
Daniel

Thanks, I read that before, but it doesnt seem to explain the whole "not CARB" thing - does that mean not legal in California? or anywhere? I'll be buying in Ohio.
It also doesn't really give any hp increase numbers...although it does say that gains can be felt around 3k rpm.

many are waiting on dynos for AEM and TRD intakes (apparently it's virtually the same intake). AEM claims 12-15 HP gains, therefore one could assume the TRD is approximately the same... give or take 1-2 HP perhaps. That little HP doesn't make a real difference, so they're about the same, and I've heard side by side comparison with the Injen intake is virtually the same as well, so you're down to two things. Which brand do you prefer (TRD and AEM have the best product warranty, arguably) and fitment/install. People have said the smaller diameter pipes on the TRD and AEM intakes are easier to install than the larger Injen. Personally, I'm going with AEM or TRD. AEM is considerably less expensive though, especially if you don't want the bypass valve, or you get one seperately from AEM. TRD is a good product but overpriced, even with the bypass valve they include on their intake.
