Yes... The o2 sensor connects to the down pipe. So if you don't have the o2 sensor installed correctly or an antifouler. You will throw a check engine light.

i have an invidia spipe and i was driving with it for a while ( no cel ),and after i've put the header the cel showed up.. the problem with invidia spipe is that there is no room to put the antifouler... so i need to look at the CHECK ENGINE every day..damn..

Like I said. If you install a Down pipe. And do NOT install the o2 sensor or the antifouler you WILL throw a cel. Plain and simple.

? You mean "test pipe".

The CEL is caused by the lack of a catalytic converter on the header. The secondary O2 sensor thinks the cat isn't working... and since you removed it... it's right.

If you stay stock, and your catalytic converter takes a poop and dies at 120,000 miles... you'll have the same result.

Installing an Spipe alone will not cause a CEL, unless you screw something up and break, incorrectly seat, or forget to plug in the O2 sensor.

dont you lose power with the CEL on? doesn't it tell the ECU to run in "limp" mode?

Depends on the fault code, and depends on the motors. There is no "limp mode" for a tC, but some faults can cause incorrect engine management, thereby losing power.

Cars that come factory turbocharged with electronic wastegates (like VW 1.8T) will go limp if a MAF sensor goes out, or excessive knock is detected. This feature is to protect the motor, since a heavy lean condition can blow the whole thing to high hell.

Most cars- An emissions fault might deter performance slightly, but not in a "limp" mode. If your A/F sensor (the one on the header) goes out, your car will barely run. If your secondary O2 goes out or finds a fault, nothing will happen.

umm i did do the install, and i did exactly what u plan on doing, to install just a s-pipe. I was waiting for my header to come in so decided just to install the s-pipe.

If you delete both cats with a header and midpipe - 8ish.

If you're otherwise stock - 3-5.

No one has dynoed one on a stock system, but I noticed a difference. I run the stock header for legal and autocross class reasons.
