Has anyone had to replace their front drive axles yet? I am doubting anyone has due to low mileage and time frame of vehicles on the site. But, incase someone has, any pointers?

My outer CV boots are showing signs (and feeling rough) of dryrot so I am going to be proactive on this matter. I saw PLENTY of BMWs come into the shop with split CV boots and grease flung ALL OVER the under side of the car and CV joints clicking. I DON'T want that to happen to me. I am going to get OEM quality axles (probably from Autozone) and replace them before the first snow fall. So, does anyone have any tips, suggestions as to where to order these axles if I can't find them at Autozone? Also, anyone know of a site selling specific axles for the tC that are upgraded? I am mainly looking for a neoprene CV boot assembly, setup rather than just a rubber boot, to prolong deterioration and dryrot.

 

First off you will not get OEM quality from a local parts store! Trust me I have worked for Autozone and Advance Auto. Try contacting the driveshaft shop to see how much they could make you a set for. It all depends on if you are racing your car.

 

I won't be doing any racing.......maybe the periodic drag race at the track but that's rare if I do. Stock axles have held up great and it's just the boot that is worrying me. I'll contact that site to see what they say...thanks.


Oh, Cardone's website has them for 88$ driver's and 160 (including core) for the passenger. Driver's side is new and passenger is rebuilt.

Yeah....ummm....1200$ for a set of axles that are stronger (but I don't really care about that b/c the OEM ones were perfectly fine) is a bit much for my taste. Not worth spending the extra money if I don't need to. I'm going to try and find some other place but if not, I may try to work a deal with the dealer or just get the Cardone axles.

Going to go with OEM axles (due to not racing my car at all) from TRDSparks and keeping the old ones. Going to thoroughly clean the joints and replace the grease and boots....then store them with a bit of gear lube on the boots to keep them supple. Those will be my back up axles just in case
