Default Replacing resonator that came with catback...

My freakin Ark DTS catback blows. Don't buy one. I mean, the slight sound that it makes it good, but it's almost exactly stock quiet.

The resonator it came with appears to be about 24" long. I have the stock header. If I move to a, say, 14" resonator I won't have any rasp, right?

You cant get rasp with a stock header can you?

I found your thread HAh lol...Ok Yes you can get rasp with the stock header, Are you planning on pickin a Header anytime soon? Removing the resonator completely will give it rasp at around 3500k to redline. If you were to get a Header and bolt it on, get a S-pipe, and put the catback on with a 14" or so resonator and see how you like it. The less of a restriction on the TC exhaust flow, the more raspy it gets. A full catless, resonatorless exhaust system will sound like s**t if its not done properly.

No plans for a header anytime soon. I was hoping to fix this with a smaller resonator and be done with it.

What's that slant? That's because the design is bad and it doesn't properly clear the rear subframe. Nice little knocking every now and then when the two touch going through a curve.
Ignore the brothers ____tastic car.

that huge OEM style mufler that sits in the rear under the bumper is whats deadening the sound. If ya cut that off it would be so much deeper and better, and probably how you want it, if you not getting headers anytime soon. Leave the resonator, but cut off that huge sound blocker LOL

It's actually not that big. Might be able to tell better from the uninstalled picture. What should I replace the muff with?

If I were you I wouldve just gotten a good tip and went to the local Exhaust shop and had them do a catback with 1 resonator and thats it. Wouldve cost less then any exhaust kit out there. Sell the kit, and go to a local shop and have the kit fabed up. Cheaper and lasts longer IMO

dont cut up that ARK exhaust!!! you paid so much for it just to cut it all up???? just take off your secondary cat and replace that with a test pipe. i have the ARK N-1 exhaust and did that and it sounds nice and deep with no rasp at all. i had a header and it was pretty loud with no rasp at all either but needed to get rid of the header..

keep the exhaust and see if you can find someone to switch out the secondary cat with a testpipe! it will sound a lot better

I want to keep both the cats and I don't want a check engine light.

you wont get a check engine light if you remove the secondary cat... only if you put a header on, will you get a check engine light. but you can also fix that with a CEL Eliminator. thats what i got off ebay when i installed my header and NEVER had a CEL light come on!

Damn man you're killing me! Don't know what to do. Here's what I had in mind before you chimed in.

I always wanted the dezod na s pipe back. But the ark vid had me convinced and so I bought it. Whatever. I was thinking about buying just the muffler from the dezod kit and replacing mine with it.

Should I do that or replace the cat like you're saying?

if you replace the muffler it will pretty much sound the same cause of the resonator that came with the ARK catback...

when i just installed my ark exhaust i was pretty ____ed too of the sound. i had an ebay knockoff s-pipe back exhaust and it was loud and raspy with the header and just like you, i saw the vids of the ark n1 and was conviced and bought it. i hated the fact that it was too quiet (i had a header on at the time) and i didnt want to cut up the resonator since i paid about 600 for this exhaust so what i tried was put the midpipe of the ebay exhaust on and the ark muffler to see if the sound would change...it did but it sounded just the same when i had the full ebay exhaust on, didnt like that. i also wanted that dezod exhaust and should of got it...

just get someone to replace the cat with a testpipe and it will sound nicer. not really loud and annoying, and not like stock either. its going to have a nice deep rumble to it...

Ok since I get to keep the ark in 1 peice I'll try replacing the cat with a test pipe and getting an aftermarket s pipe while I'm at it.

Get an Aero 25 resonator and weld that on the pipe somewhere, it'll kill the rasp.

If you think your exhaust is too quiet, add a header and spipe - the car will louden up and you will like the sound. Without question, put a 4-2-1 or 4-1 header on and you will get some sound and need the resonator. I used to run a 4-2-1 header and two resonators - sounded great.

this is probably your best option seeing that you did already pay big bucks for that kit
