Default resonator body width

So I'm buying an 18" Magnaflow resonator to kill the rasp my 14" Aero AR 25 still allows. My question is what body width would be best for killing rasp but gives me enough clearance so it won't hit the heatshield? BTW, I have the Tsudo midpipe.

Thanks.

The stock resonator is just under 5" in diameter, so a 5" round Magnaflow resonator will fit no problem.

I'm considering getting the 6" diameter, need to get under the car and check the clearances. Should be ok since the 6" will actually only be 1/2" closer to the heatshield than the 5".

If it clears, the 6" would be the way to go - a fatter muffler = quieter exhaust.

The only problem with that is I have an aftermarket catback with 2.5" piping, so it's going to be a little different because of pipe width and possible fitment issues.

But anyways, I'm pretty set on a 30" body length, 4" width resonator. A local shop gave me a good deal on it, and it's a decent, respected brand. The owner swears that it will kill all of my rasp. I will let you guys know how it goes.

Can't go wrong with Magnaflow stainless steel:

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=302

Get the Magnaflow part # and shop around for best price. (Personally I would suggest Stripper Motorsports.)

Wherever you go (online or local shop) go with stainless steel. Aluminized mufflers are cheaper but tend to rust out & collapse sooner than you'd want.

If buying from a shop, ask to inspect the resonator first. Exhaust shops still have louvered-core resonators on hand, so make sure it's perforated-core before they weld it on your car.

What exactly are we looking for when you say "louvered" vs. "perforated"

Louvered core is quieter but cuts flow down so you lose high end HP compared to perforated core.

wow, thank you so much. That article was really helpful because I really had no idea there was such a huge difference between the two. You don't by chance have the link to resonators for Striper Motorsports because I looked all through the site (and searched) and couldn't find them. Thanks

Just call their toll-free #. They're able to get more products than they list, just give the Magnaflow part number and they'll quote the price. Can't guarantee they're the cheapest right now but have been for me a couple of times in the past.
