Default S-Pipes....so many to choose from...

Alright so I've been searching on this forum and haven't really found much info (perf. gains, fitment issues, quality, etc...) on hardly any of the numerous s-pipes out there. That being said...I wanted to see what s-pipes people have and their opinions about them. Here's what I've found so far:

Ebay S-Pipes ranging from $52-$120...all stainless steel..comes w/ bolts and gasket:

Megan Racing S-Pipe Stainless: $160(approx.)

Invidia S-Pipe Stainless: $120(approx.)

TruBenz 2 1/2" Stainless S-Pipe: $170

SOOO....They're all stainless steel...they're all 2 1/4" except the TruBendz which is 2 1/2"...they're all mandrel bent...all come with the appropriate hardware...so WHAT THE HELL MAKES ONE $50 AND ONE $160+?!!? Help me out guys.

S-Pipes all pretty much do the same thing. Increase the Airflow... I personally have the Megan Racing one from wesellcarparts, and I got it for a cheap price. The Megan S-pipe has no fit issues, and I'm pretty sure the rest don't either.

First, I have the Invidia, no fit problems, slight gain, mostly in your mind since your not gonna feel the dif between 140whp and 145whp, just my opinion, however, changes the exhaust note slightly. The only reason for the small perf. gain is from the slight increase in piping to flow more air out of the head during the exhaust stroke. Plus with the removal of all the bends and small-big-small sections of the stock pipe, the gases can flow freer. Not really a must have item honestly, just don't get a ZPI one as I have heard of fitment issues with the o2 bung being too far back, and the fact that the main place closed down last I heard.

Second, to tnert000, any s-pipe will work since the TRD exhaust is an axle back. The system is broken down into

exhaust manifold (header) --> s-pipe--> 2nd CAT--> mid pipe-->axle back

So all your doing is taking out one section of it, its like two spring bolts and two reg bolts if I remember correctly, piece of cake to work on.

Awesome...so being just a short stainless steel pipe with a couple mandrel bends, why NOT go with the ones for $55?

Because your taking your chances of not getting something that you ordered. Plus no true guarantee of fitments and good workmanship on the products. Not saying get the most expensive one, but I'm always leary of eBay products...just me though.

Okay..I did notice a slight difference between all of them vs. the Invidia pipe. I believe the megan and the other "generic" pipes have an extra bend in the pipe which looks like they might hang a little lower than the Invidia. Look at the red lines I put in to show the bends in each:

Honestly I don't think you'll have an issue, at most it looks to be .5in lower to me. And very doubtful that bend is going to give/take performance away. All the mods you can do: intake, header, s-pipe, cat-back this one and the cat back are going to net you the least amount in terms of perf. gains. The cat back just gives a slightly bigger pipe, maybe smoother bends, remove the resonator to get their few ponies in gains. The header will net the most gains only b/c it removes the cat and depending on which one you get depends on how they route the pipes, which determines how much easier it is to flow. BUT with all these mods you take away low end torque and gain in high end HP...do to the increase air flow. Just something else to consider.

I am keeping my stock header...getting an aftermarket s-pipe..keeping the stock mid-pipe and getting the TRD axleback. I just want a nice looking and sounding setup. I am not going for MAX performance gains..just a couple extra ponies is fine with me. I don't want a header because it sounds like CRAAAAAAAP unless you add resonators and whatnot and I just don't want to invest that much into it, at least not right now.

lol very true, set a goal that you want though. Like if you know you want to go TC or SC later on then no sense in wasting money on little parts now you know?

Definitely..I hear ya..well if I can get a TRD axleback for around $200 and the Invidia for around $120 I will be a happy camper. I just gotta keep my eyes peeled

I am running Invidia Spipe and TRD axleback and I love it. Get the invidia, the quality and fitment is perfect.

Just FYI, if you're going to run into problems with the s-pipe being too low and scraping, it's going to happen here:
