Scion Tc or STI

The most common hybrid engine was a 2.0 wrx head with a 2.5 STi block. Whatever you call it, it still displaces 2.5ish liters, and has a supposedly better flowing head.

My cousin drive's a STi (look at photos). He regrets getting it though. Not really good for a daily driver. He's creeping up to 60K and has tons of problems. Subaru's are nice but damn if you don't baby them they start to fall apart. He wish he got a WRX instead.

That's not true. My RS has 157k miles on it. Runs awesome! my Buddy has 90K on his 05 STi and daily drives it and Auto-x it. Just keep up with regular maintenance, like any other car, and they will last awhile. However the STi does require different gear and diff oil, which are more expensive. Also they may even have to be changed frequently.

I'll say no to this. I had my WRX for 50K miles, beat on it, heck even over boosted and popped the intercooler off the mounts. Still ran like a champ. The STI's are even built for a bit more abuse then that of the WRX. And early WRX's had transmission issues. But overall, Subaru makes some of the BEST vehicles out there.

I think everyone is correct here, two totally different classes of cars.
I would rather put the 6-8k to convert a tC to turbo towards the STI knowing its built to handle OEM turbo and such. Now dont get me wrong, I would love to have a turbo tC..if I had $100 bills falling out of my wallet every 10 minutes.

Things to consider:
Insurance cost difference
Buying new or used
FWD vs AWD
Built car vs build it yourself
Vehicular longevity under overpowered conditions
If you buy a used (+2yr) old STi you can probably pay as much as a new tC.
So it comes down to do you want a FWD car that you have to build up to 300+ hp or a prebuilt 300hp AWD car...?

So, you like the tC but want something turbo. Just curious, why the immediate jump to the STi? After a quick visit to the Washington Auto Show last week, I can tell you there's a LOT of other options for factory-boosted autos. A quick rundown:
Chevy
- 2012 Sonic (1.4L, 138 HP)
Ford
- 2012 Focus ST (2.0L, 250 HP)
Hyundai
- Genesis coupe (2.0L, 210 HP)
- Sonata sedan (2.0L, 274 HP)
Kia
- Optima sedan (2.0L, 274 HP)
Mitsubishi
- Lancer Ralliart (2.0L, 237 HP)
- Evo (2.0L, 291 HP)
Nissan
- Juke (1.6L, 188 HP)
Subaru
- WRX (2.5L, 265 HP)
- STi (2.5L, 305 HP)
- Legacy Limited (2.5L, 265 HP)
VW
- GTI (2.0L, 200 HP)
Personally, my short list would be the WRX (non-STi), Genesis, or the Juke for daily driving. I'm really hoping they move the 274 HP direct inject into the Genesis next year, that would move it to first hands down in my book. BTW, the Juke is AWD, but has a CVT trans. Supposedly fun to drive and good on gas, but limited mod potential. Seats were comfortable though.
