Default Searched, now I need your thoughts "Droning in axleback

Ok, here is my current setup for the time being.

Stock Intake with K&N Filter
Tanabe Concept G Axleback

And since my tC being an auto. "Please dont slam on me"
Its droning and too deep for my ears. Also the techs at my scion dealership failed me without measureing db. "Its louder than our TRD aftermarket"

So ive done some searches and looked up on droning and rasp and resonators.
So is this the setup?

Header w/ 1st cat
S pipe
2nd Cat
small resonator
muffler?

also what size is the stock mid piping? 2in?

So since its droning at the pedal should i replace the small resonator on the rear of the mid pipe with 2x 14" Magnaflow resonators to help reduce the drone and deep tone?

Thanks, this is here to help me and anyone else who uses "search" for "drone" "resonator" "rasp"

after seeing so many ricers with their cheapo ebay fart cannons, i want my tanabe to not be in the same catagory even tho it may be considered one. This is my 2nd exhaust. Figure I'd ask for help and stick in some more resonators, gotta be cheaper than a new exhaust. Thanks folks

Axleback-only usually doesn't give rasp or drone. You normally have to add an aftermarket header to get "super-fartcan" effects.

Have your exhaust checked for leaks before you spend any more money.

If no leaks, put your stock axleback back on. Maybe make a video w/sound of the Tanabe and with stock. Use it to request a new exhaust from Tanabe if their warranty is still in effect.

Also, does Tanabe make a silencer for your exhaust?

(FYI the stock midpipe is 2.25".)

i dont know of any warranty because i bought it from a 3rd party retailer. Directtuning.com The stock doesnt make any noise. with the tanabe there is alot of interior resonance. None the less its a drone with the pedal. i sent messages to tanabe and they say to get it measured. and that there are "tanabe exhausts" that dont meet the 93db standard.
So im like if its over can i get an exchange? still to no reply. Prob cause of holidays.

According to pg. 2 of this exhaust guide yours should be less than 93dB:

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...=asc&&start=20

If you can have your exhaust sound level measured and documented at >93 dB then you've got basis for an exchange or even a refund if you bought it brand new.

But start by corresponding with directtuning.com since they're the retailer you bought it from. If they won't deal with you then go back to Tanabe.

If you're still stuck you have other options, such as your county or state consumer protection agency, but usually companies don't like bad publicity. They almost always are willing to work with customers with valid claims who politely insist on being treated right.

yup, i know the details of my exhaust, but maybe its loud cause im driving an auto tranny. I just thought about it. But, i'll go to midas to get a check on it for leaks , etc and measurement, if its over, then im gonna demand an exchange free of charge from directtuning or actually tanabe usa.

Auto or stick makes no difference for exhaust noise. The auto has less power to the wheels due to driveline losses, but at any given RPM on otherwise identical cars the exhaust flow is the same, and so the exhaust sound level will be the same.

OK, sounds like you've got a good plan going. Hopefully soon you'll be able to hear yourself think while driving.

Should work well. Magnaflow makes great products. I've got their cat-back system on mine and love it. The only issue is its bolt on so as soon as I buy a resonator for their midpipe I'm gonna have it fully welded up. As far as drone, I don't have any on mine. You hardly hear it at all unless your WOT but still has a nice deep tone to it.

what particular kind of resonator are you gonna get? the round ones? or the races ones? i would assume the round ones. think id be more expensive to get it at a shop and install or buy online and get it installed? ive spent alot already this year on mods, and this is my second exhaust, if possible id rather not spend MSRP on parts.

and mine is like a deep tone, id like to quiet down on the deepness and noise

thanks

I'm gonna go with this on http://www.aeroexhaust.com/aero_resonator_ar25.html and have them cut the midpiping and stick it on. One guy on here had a new header, spipe, and this thing and side it cut the rasp out a lot. I'm not going to go with a header since I'm gonna turbo mine, but I'm still keeping my main cat (the second cat) put this puppy on and keep the magnaflow muffler. Not sure what all you will need to quiet yours down though but a resonator may help.

i wonder what kinda sound it would give with this aero turbine, ive seen it before but the lack in length i wonder if it still helps. "jet engine" technology? wow.

Yeah, "supposedly" the 14in length of it is just as effective as an 18in one. I dunno, I'll let you know when I get it though Yeah, if you look at their turbo mufflers, its a pretty sweet setup. They even have some versions that combine the muffler and resonator together.
