Default Shifting is hard at high rpms..

Hey guys I just recently started having a problem when I accelerate hard and I hit high rpms the shifter is stiff as hell trying to get into gear... I cant seem to pinpoint the issue.. Changed my manual tranny fluid last year to Royal Purple so Im assuming it aint the fluid... When I just drive normal it shifts perfectly fine, but the second I get on it and open it up and try shifting it feels extremely stiff and hard to get into a gear... Any clues/opinions? Thanks guys yall are the best!

it's because the synchros have to work harder to account for the large change in rpm. Try going from 4th to 2nd during normal driving and you should feel the same effect. It's weird that it started happening all of a sudden. Maybe your trans fluid is bad.

Get rid of the Royal Purple. They make a good gear oil, but its a GL-5. Our tranny states both will work, but I had similar issues with Royal Purple and another GL-5. (After a little while, in one case a couple weeks, in the other a couple months, the car was very hard to shift at high rpm). Going back to a GL-4 gear oil fixed it both times. Ive stuck with Redline MT-90, which seems to be a great GL-4 gear oil. The only downside to GL-4 is you prob wont find it locally. Amazon has the best price on Redline fyi ;)

The only gl-5 known to work with our cars is eneos 75w-90, I run it and cange it every 50k and have no issues. Redline seems to work but there were people complaining about your condition after using it in the tech section.

No. I used penzoil and mobile1 in my integra's trans while I had it. The penzoil synchromesh was okay. I had alot of grinds going into second when running to redline until I switched to Eneos for my tC.

Really need to bump a 6 month old thread for this? Looks like someone is trying to get posts to sell some crappy parts.

What does 5 years on the site have to do with ANYTHING about bumping an old thread to say nothing? EXACTLY

Yeah I have the same experience with the shifting. I ended up snapping my shift linkage cable. So I can't figure out what the culprit is? Even when I got the car brand new the shifting was not smooth. After adding short shifter it made it worse. Dealt with it because if the shorter throws. Ended up costing me a 1000 to fix the snapped cable. I was ____ed! 20000 on the car and the mechanic was like this sort of thing does not happen often.
