Default Should I?

I'm really torn on what to do... I really want to get a turbo kit for my car, but I'm worried because it's my only car. I want to boost up my car real nice so I can take it to some tracks near by on some weekends just for fun and to see how I can do. But I don't want to be blowing my car out in a few years.

In getting a turbo kit, like the ZPI Stage 1 kit... What do you think is the life expectancy on the engine if it's used for every day driving as well? Do you think it'll be worth it?

Get a boost controller and just de-tune your boost when your driving during the week to and fro', then when youre at the track turn it back up.

Piggyback's like the GReddy eManage (correct me if I'm wrong) should let you even store a couple diffent tunings, have one for street one for track. So you keep the impact on your engine as a daily driver lower than when youre *****-to-the-wall on the weekend track days. Say around 200hp street and near your top end at the track.

I am wanting turbo also, but coming from the rsx to the tc, waiting about a year is the best to see what all happens when the turbo kits are actually in the real world and test driven by regular people.

Well the EVO III turbo is a proven solid performer long term. The 2.4L engine in the TC is also a solid performer long term. Drive it in full boost all day, every day and wear and tear will catch up. But, that will also happen in a non-tubo car. Good regular maintenance, oil changes with synthetic oil and a light foot and it should last for many years to come. Shoot, a stage 0 is only 7 PSI of boost. A leaf blower I saw in a video in off topic will give you 3 PSI.

I have a stage 1 kit with a 7 PSI spring. That basically makes it a stage 0 with a FMIC, injectors and emanage. I have the Blitz i-Color boost controller that will allow me to pop boost up to 10/11 PSI at the touch of a button. So for daily driving, I'll be stage 0, but when you pull next to me, STAGE 1 BABY!!!! hehe

he didn't ask about the quality nor price. he asked about the engine life expectancy.

if you're not 100% about going turbo, DO NOT go turbo. bottom line.

The TRD kit is out now... although pricey, it has a 5-year 60,000 mile Toyota warranty.

You guys really have to start reading the fine print....

So yes IF the car is brand new off the lot, it will have a 5-year 60,000-mile warranty. BUT if you've had the car a year and with 20,000 miles, you now have a 4-year 40,000-mile warranty.

If your car is out of warranty or installed by someone other than Toyota, the part (only the part) is warrantied for 12 months, not your engine.

If Toyota is willing to stand behind it for the full warranty of the car, it`s a (relatively) safe bet that it won`t be the part blowing the car up...

We've lost the connection here haha. I'm talking about a Turbo kit. Scion is making the Supercharger... Which I believe still isn't even out yet haha

I'm fully aware what FI system you are referrring to. My response is to those that keep forcing the TRD S/C issue and it's warranty (which people really need to understand how the warranty works). Personally, if I had the loot, I'd be calling ZPI up myself.

The stock internals on our cars are forged and very robust and if TRD can warrant a car running 7psi, then you should not be worried about running the same with a turbo.

In my personal opinion...
tC & Turbo is still in its beta phase, and even if it wasn't its forcing the stock motor to do something it wasn't intended to do. If you apply that to any stock non-FI (forced induction) motor and force it into FI mode, than u'll experience a shorter life span. Now, my guess is even with the factory warranty S/C, there's bound to be drawbacks in terms of durability.
My recommendation: Wait til most issues have been resolved from: OB sensor issues, proper boost settings, FI ready ECU, aftermarket FI engine components, and the list goes on and on...
Its your car and your gamble if u truly can't wait...
However choose wisely.
