Ive always wondered this. The sound is nice but there are others on the market that just seem like you get so much more for the money. Ill be watching to see what others have to say.

I felt the TRD made my car slower although I thought it sounded real good.

Definately not stock.... check out the cutout at precisionmuffler.com under the tC section.... the stock muffler is crazy restrictive.... while you are there, look at the precision axleback... it's one of the best priced aftermarket options, and much more friendly with later header or other mods...

how about neither and put the $500 into suspension where it will make a marked difference?

BTW, have the TRD on my car, throw a resonator on it when you get a header and you'll be set, it'll purr like a kitten. But I wouldn't buy it again if I had the chance, there was nothing else on the market when I bought my car, I got it a month after TC's came out.

performance , TRD is all sound. you might want to search numerous dyno's that was posted last year.

theres also a great comparison of different exhaust by gscmotorsports posted here.

stock - and then get an aftermarket one when you get $$ to use for modding.

ALL axlebacks are just sound. Just like an intake. The only exhaust mod that makes a reall difference is header and cat back. And they realistically make less than the manufacturer claims.. especially after you drive it for a bit.

The TRD sounds awesome in my opinion. If you are going axleback that is all you are affecting, so I would say the TRD is great if you can find it at a good price.. they are too spendy. But I have one.. same as mentioned above.. bought it right when I got the car, cause there was really nothing else out there.

got mine when i got my car, of course, it's all for sound (like any other axle-back). i still got it even tho there where a few out there. i took it over dc, hks, and greddy evo and sp2 because i still think it's the best sounding, nicest looking, and oem fitment. the only drawback is price, but look around and you can usually find a deal.

Gotta love the PrecisionMuffler.com axle back. Works great and has a great quiet tone too! :D

would you get any power gains if lets say you do have the TRD Axle-back, but then add in a Megan Mid-pipe + S-pipe?

I have to disagreee, I went to the toyota dealership and made them let me drive a s/c tc 5speed with the trd and it was the most annoying thing ever, the car was slow as heck too to boot but ill leave that for another time. The trd IMO sounds too loud and not giving the right sound it makes too much sound i think it never gets quiet. The sp2 on the other hand sounds very nice, its quiet but loud when you get on it especially with an intake, and supposedly its the highest dynoing axel back for the tC. I have raced a few tC's with just the injen intake and with my fujita intake and sp2 exhaust and i just walked them. I dont know why maybe its because i have been running to redline and driving it hard from about 100 miles to currently which is about 35k
