Default some professional info on the tC exhaust

i know i talked to a few of you guys about aftermarket exhausts on saturday and you guys expressed concern about all the brand name systems being axle-backs. here's some info i got from GReddy regarding why only rear section exhausts are being made.

"It is a cat-back, but on the newer Scions and Toyotas, the section of exhaust that the catalytic converter is attached to is almost all the way back towards the muffler. The first flanged area is toward the rear axle. So it's basically a rear-section cat-back."

fyi, there is a pre-cat on the s-pipe/downpipe and the actual cat is on the mid-pipe near the rear axle. this is why the brand name systems are coming out that way. also, every post i read regarding owners getting custom pipes is bad. they complain that the custom pipe makes great-sounding setups like the trd and injen sound like crap.

keep in mind that the stock s-pipe and mid-pipe are 2.25". personally, i don't see why that is too small, unless you're gonna boost. the way i see it, the professionals at GReddy, DC, Injen and Tanabe(who just finished r&d on their systems which are also rear sections only) didn't go to the trouble of producing anything but the rear section, most likely because it's unnecessary. i think everyone who's going bigger is just doing so cause that's what they did to their civic, accord, eclipse or whatever they had before their tC.

just sharing some info and my $.02. hope this helps someone.

U doing your homework dude... good work!

I think the thing with our exhausts that I want to shy away from is the headers, for now... until more R&D is done, I don't want a CEL, and I don't want raspy high pitched exhaust.
