Sounds from a DC Header
Yesterday I had my DC Header installed. I have a K&N CAI and the TRD Axleback exhaust. Now it sounds extremely loud and is raspy. I searched and searched and couldn't find the definite answers I was looking for here. That is why I'm asking all of them straight up.
There was a report that the sound actually changes tones once it is all broken in. It is hard for me to believe this. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
Is there anyway to change the sound to make it sound better without loosing much performance? I wouldn't mind loosing a little bit of performance, just I would hate to completely counteract putting on the header. Of course, the sound is unbearable.
I know there were some things going on about putting in a resonator. Would I just have an extra one installed? Would I replace the existing one with a better one? What do I need to do? Thanks!

You should go buy the ZPI full cat-back exhaust with s-pipe and your car will sound much much better...
they have a video posted somewhere on the forums with their full cat-back exhaust and DC header..
ill try to search the video for you..

APEXi made a super silencer for their exhaust.. im not sure if itll help the raspyness but itll lower loudness..
a possible solution is to add another muffler customly wielded on.... which will reduce performance for a better, deeper sound.. most likely no raspy noise too.
plus, TRD exhaust is already been known for its raspy sound combined with headers available....
sell that exhaust (ebay) and grab BLITZ or DC; better yet a custom exhaust... APEXi is very popular with their mufflers... just buy a muffler and have someone customly chop and wield it on

get an exhaust like an apexi world sport 2 thatll muffle all sound down and itll be real deep. my friend has it on his 2000 si and it sounds real nice even when punched it doesnt sound raspy (hondas are rasp kings especially in vtec IMO).

The key to Tuning an exhaust sound with a header is the resonator. You want a "glasspack" style muffler with a perforated core and get the longest one that will fit. Cut out the stock resonator, and weld in the longest one that fits in there. They really do not inhibit exhaust gas flow at all, so you are not losing anything by doing this, performance wise. Resonators have been curing rasp for years now...That's why they are standard equipment on most cars. Magnaflow used to make magnapacks which were stainless and kicked butt, but I have heard they have been discontinued. May have to check with them on that one.
I got a high flow perferated core resonator about 18" long and about 4 1/2" in diameter. i have 2 1/4 pipe with custom high flow Hks style muffler, DC sports header and Injen intake. I have no rasp at all. I have curently removed my DC sports while i wait for the Strup header. I am in talks to help out with a sound clip and before and after numbers.
