I just got my manula FM this weekend but the clutch is not bad at all, its harder then the VW clutch but I like this one much more. You feel it much better.

I do believe that the tC clutch is stiffer then most cars, Every other car I've driven the clutch is generally a lot more smoother....way smoother...

yaknow I'd like to get the production dates for those 05 tCss with the stiff clutch... I've owned mine for over a year, and when I bought it, I just thought it was part of the breaking in prosess, but it has never gotten any lighter.

I thought this was the deal with all tC's but then the other day I drove an 06' and that clutch was as smooth as butter! a massive I guess it's doesn't matter as much because I will be upgrading it in a few months.

LOL, I just read the "known problems" for the Cobalt. Their cars are F'ed up from the factory. AND THATS JUST THE FIRST POST!

All Cobalts:

Body molding and fabric flaws, not fitting correctly or measured properly from the factory... Take to dealer. Sunroofed cars the operating button falling off and the track breaking....Take to dealer or super glue.
Headlight moisture...Take to dealer or take apart, dry, and reseal better.
Exterior part's colors not matching exactly... Live with it.
Shift **** breaking off...Take to dealer.
Fog lights shorting out... Take to dealer.

Cobalt SS/SC:

Wheel paint chipping/flaking and clutch problems...Take to dealer.
Muffler's heat shield's baffles loosen, causing rattling noise...Take to dealer.
Wires melting and grounding out, causing rough or no start or rough driving/idle(Wires)...Take to dealer or reposition wires.
Rough shifting/Not going into gear... Take to dealer.
Windows rolling up slow... Take to dealer.
Speedometer gets stuck... Take to dealer
Pinion going out in the rack and pinion steering... Take to dealer.

1) My stock clutch is sooo soft, I do not think it provides enough feedback... I wish it was stiffer. (When I upgrade, it will be a TRD clutch kit for a more stiff feel.) I think he should definately try driving another one... just to see.

2) My neighbor has the Cobalt SS. It is flat out an awesome car. Now, before everyone starts hatin on me, it is just my opinion. You are entitled to yours. We hang out together quite a bit and I have to be honest, that car is really amazing. I prefer the refinement of my tC (so does he for that matter), but you cannot say one thing bad about that Ecotec motor. It is killing in the races, including time attacks! Plus GM has just come out with a stage 2 kit for the SS. That puppy has some serious pull. Even on the stage kit he was pulling 14.3 at the track.

3) The tC WITH the SC is very comperable to the Cobalt SS and might be a bit quicker due to the shorter gears... but since I have yet to take my new sc tc to the track, I'll have to find out later.

I do not think you friend can go wrong with either car.
