Default SW Intake...New design?

I just got the Secret Weapon Intake yesterday and it looks different than the one in the FAQ for installing the intake. Is it an old model or a new one?

Different location of the MAF sensor, I think they changed it so it wouldn't throw a CEL. Not sure which is the new revised one though.

The one in the faq is the old model. The one you have the maf is located on the back and not the top. Only thing about mine was that I didn't reveived a new short tube that attaches to the side of the intake so I had to use the stock one. But Of course they sent me two lisense plate brackets.......

Yea, it didn't throw a CEL. I just wanted to make sure I got what I ordered. Looking at the FAQ during the install made me do a double take because of the difference. Thanks for the replies!

I'm pretty sure that is the old design for the WR SW intake. I got mine from creative compacts when it was on sale and all the newer install pic's I've seen lately look like mine. If you’re not getting a CEL with that one then you should be all good. If you do get the CEL, just let WR know and they should hook you up with a different pipe. How do you like it, I love mine.

I got mine from creative compacts too, ordered on March 28. That's why I thought it was strange that it doesn't look like others bought around the same time. I just wanted to know if I got a leftover old one that Weapon R wanted to get rid of. I like it a lot though. My car keeps getting more and more fun to drive.

I got my intake from Creative Compacts last week, and it also did not come with the pcv hose. When I e-mailed James about, he told me since WR redesigned the intake the stock pcv hose would suffice. I let him know that I still wanted the pcv hose which was suppose to come with the intake (because that is part of what we payed for) and he told me I had to take it up with WR. Creative Compacts usually has good customer service so I don't know why he would not just send the hose. In any case, I'm installing it tomorrow, hope it's as easy as everyone says it is.

Ahhh that does look like a new WR SW intake, it doesn't have the rivits showing like older ones, at least I can't see any. I'm assuming that the new ones are more mass produced then the older ones, and the rivits arn't needed. Not sure why they moved the MAF sensor to that spot, but if it works it works. Sorry for my eariler post I should have looked closer but the spot the MAF sensor is located is the some as some real old ones, that made me think it was older.

The variations in the MAF placement make no difference in performance. It is the actual size of pipe that the MAF sits in that matters. All the tC intakes up until about 2 weeks ago have been custom made in house, which is why the position of the MAF varied from time to time. All the current pipes we are shipping out now are made from our factory, and position the sensor on the side of the pipe, mainly for a cleaner look.

Sound should be the same, the whistle is caused by the velocity stack in the filter. When the air gets to a certain speed, it will have a frequency change and cause it to whistle.
