Default Taking stock rotors off

I took my tires off, took my calipers off. I noticed on the screw that the axel nut screws onto, that there is a groove in the thread.. and the nut itself is pinched into that groove...how the heck do I remove the axel nut to take the rotors off? I have the deep socket 30mm socket and a torque wrench but that groove is preventing the nut from spinning..I didnt take pictures, I'm sorry..

I called toyota and they said If I take it in at that moment they would install it.. and they say quoted 140.. I get there and they say "oh..its 140 for 2 rotors".. im like WTF.. 300 bucks to put the damn rotors on!??! screw that I'll do it myself, just find a way to remove that nut.. help please!

Hello, I'm a honda tech and I know honda and toyotas are really similar. If they are like hondas and there is two philips head screws in the rotor where the lugs are you do not have to remove the axle nut. however you will need an impact driver and hammer to get the screws loose and put the new ones on.

if there is no screws try getting a flat head screw driver in there to push up the dent.
being a tech and having all the tools you need we just put an impact to it and zap it off. don't worry it won't damage the threads, you just need enough torque to bend the brass.

oh and you really shouldn't use a torque wrench as a breaker bar. this could serously damage it, and I garantee it won't be acurate anymore.

That thread you linked too shows how to get the rotors off of the xA and xB.. although it looks exactly the same, I wouldnt see why they would change the way its done on the tC..

.. I didnt even try pulling it.. are you saying the rotor just pulls off once the calipers are removed??? strange because it looks like its being held on by the damn axel nut.. in that picture it shows the same axel nut.. that black nut around the center thread of the axel..

I guess ill try it tomorrow again.. thx.. I got the r1racing rotors... im kind of looking forward to doing this because 2 weeks ago i painted my calipers red using g2 caliper paint.. I'll take pics after..

in my exp with cars (all dodge so far... ) the rotor just popped off after removing lugs and calipers.

on my old doge intrepid sometimes i had to use some 'persuading'. rubber mallot / heat / etc.

i am curious to see this answer as well, as i'd like to get a big brake kit soon :-)

Ok if the tc is the same as the one in the pics you don't have to remove the axle nut.

just pull the wheels off the rotors will come off with some effort.

If you look and see the small holes (2 of them next to the lugs) they should be threaded. if you have a bolt that will fit in those threads put it in and slowly work the rotor off, moving from hole to hole tighting little by little. If you don't have a bolt and have a hammer carefully smack between the studs, rotating and distributing evenly, (dont be affraid to hit hard) that should free the rust or whatever is behind the rotor and it will fall right off.

It just pulls off although it might be rusted on a bit.

AHH!! figured it out.. I managed to take off the rotors and install the new ones.. saved me almost 300 bucks labor by doing it myself.. 2 weeks ago I painted my calipers red and so now the rotors complete it..

I think it looks good so far.. now to install the strut/sway bars..

Heh..thanks for the help man.. I probably would have stripped the axel nut thinking its what held it on. There was a decent amount of rust between the rotor and the axel tat it looked like it was all one piece..

I didnt get new pads.. the pads I have are only 9000miles old, my bro said the stock ones should be fine for awhile.. ...although when I get new pads I'm getting ceramics..

I definately feel a firmer grip.. especially when coming to a halt real quick from speeding..
